About the Company
Pace Robotics, incubated by SINE IIT Bombay and backed by Pidilite Ventures and IIMA Ventures, is transforming building construction with intelligent, multi-tasking robots. We've launched India's first multi-tasking construction robot in partnership with Sobha Ltd, the most renowned real estate developer across India and the Middle East and have secured pre-order interests from top-tier firms in the region. Our flagship product, Centa Painter, automates paint, putty, and sanding for building interiors. Now, we're scaling deployments to seize global leadership in construction robotics within 24 months along with development on new robots for additional use cases across construction finishes.
To support our next stage of growth and to take the product to manufacturing at scale ready design along with new feature/technology development, we are looking for an embedded systems lead who will lead design and implementation of the software for embedded devices and systems end to end from requirements gathering to commercial deployment.
About the Role
We are looking for a Robotics Data & Interface Engineering Intern who can bridge the gap between human operators, cloud infrastructure, and embedded robotic software. In this role, you will build native control interfaces for the robot, architect a data platform to track operational progress, work on real time work progress collection and design API endpoints for end-user system integrations. You will work directly with ROS 2, edge devices (such as Nvidia Jetson Orin), full-stack web frameworks, and cloud platforms.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop a native GUI (non–web based) using Qt / PyQt5
- Interface GUI components with ROS 2 nodes, topics, and services.
- UI/UX Design & Workflows: Establish visual hierarchies, intuitive layouts, and operational clarity tailored for field operators working in real-world industrial environments.
- Data Platform Architecture: Create a centralized data platform to record, manage, and track the robot's work progress, system diagnostics, and telemetry.
- API Development: Build and expose robust REST API endpoints to enable seamless integration with end-user progress tracking tools.
- Full-Stack & Cloud Integration: Connect live robot telemetry to cloud environments for progress reporting and remote analytics
- Hardware & Field Testing: Work hands-on with physical robot hardware and embedded Linux edge devices to test and refine system software.
- Data Visualization: Develop operational dashboards and visualization tools to provide insight into robot performance and site execution metrics
Required Skills
- Educational Background: A recent graduate with less than 1 year of experience or currently in final year with a degree in Computer Science.
- Programming Languages: Proficiency in C,C++, Python, and JavaScript..
- GUI Frameworks: Hands-on experience with Qt and PyQt5 (or PySide6) for native desktops applications.
- Working knowledge of ROS2 concepts — publishers, subscribers, services, and launch files.
- Web (React JS,Next JS) & API Frameworks: Familiarity with REST API architecture full-stack development principles and database design.
- Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Firebase, AWS, or GCP.
- Comfort with Linux / Ubuntu systems and development on embedded platforms.
- Version Control: Knowledge of Git and collaborative software development workflows.
Bonus Skills
● Experience using design tools like Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch for visual prototyping.
● Exposure to rosbag, custom logging scripts, or similar data recording mechanisms.
● Basic understanding of Docker, systemd services, and deployment pipelines for embedded systems.
● Familiarity with basic data analytics or simple statistical methods for telemetry insights. ● Exposure to data analysis and plotting libraries (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Plotly).
Personal attributes:
● Strong sense of curiosity and an eagerness to learn new concepts, technologies, and methodologies.
● Thrives in cross-functional, fast-paced R&D environments.
● Highly organized and methodical in everything you do
What You’ll Gain
- End-to-End Ownership: Take features from UI wireframes and cloud API design down to on-robot physical testing.
- Real-World Impact: Hands-on experience creating deployable software for cutting-edge construction robotics in a high-impact $1.6 Trillion global market.
- Cross-Functional Mentorship: Work closely with top-tier robotics, software, and hardware engineers.
What's in it for you:
Globally, Construction provides a 1.6 Trillion Dollar opportunity, just by making the work more efficient. This is the market we are after. You will be an integral part of the core team of an early stage start-up on a mission to change the way we build our world and disrupt one of the oldest and the largest industries. You will be designing products that can change the landscape of construction, become ubiquitous in project sites and be synonymous with construction of the future (Think of JCB and Tower Cranes of today).
We promise you an environment that promotes unhindered innovation and one that can provide exciting opportunities for accelerated growth. You will be working with a stellar engineering team having diverse experience in developing robots for automotive, agriculture and construction industries. You will have immense learning opportunities as you will be working on ‘never-seen-before’ products for an industry that’s ripe for technological disruptions.
