Job Description
The Weight & Performance Engineer will be responsible for managing vehicle weight attributes and performance targets throughout the product development lifecycle. The role involves close collaboration with Design, Packaging, and Centers of Excellence (CoEs) to establish, monitor, and achieve vehicle-level and system-level targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage vehicle weight attributes, including Kerb Weight, Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), and axle loads throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with Design and Packaging teams to monitor and control weight targets at vehicle, system, and component levels.
- Collect, organize, and maintain benchmark data for vehicle and system-level weights and relevant specifications.
- Perform footprint analysis, trend analysis, and regression analysis to support weight target setting and benchmarking.
- Establish correlations between vehicle performance and weight to define and refine engineering targets.
- Conduct and facilitate weight review workshops with CoEs for alignment and sign-off on weight targets.
- Release updated system weight, weight distribution, and Center of Gravity (CoG) data to CoE teams.
- Compile system-level CoG data and calculate overall vehicle CoG and Static Stability Factor (SSF).
- Estimate CoG based on vehicle architecture parameters and perform sensitivity analysis.
- Lead CFMEA (Concept Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and CVP (Concept Validation Plan) workshops.
- Identify performance domains and associated DVPs (Design Verification Plans).
- Assess mule vehicle requirements and risks associated with new vehicle concepts and architectures.
- Support weight, cost, and performance trade-off studies.
- Compile engineering targets across performance domains and coordinate target book approval.
- Capture and implement lessons learned from previous vehicle programs.
- Develop and validate system-level 1D simulation models using GT-SUITE, AMESIM, and COMSOL.
- Define simulation objectives, parameterize performance targets, establish system-function relationships, apply constraints, and verify simulation results.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align weight and performance targets with overall vehicle program objectives.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of vehicle weight management and performance engineering.
- Experience in vehicle-level and system-level weight target setting and monitoring.
- Knowledge of vehicle CoG, axle load distribution, and Static Stability Factor (SSF).
- Experience in benchmarking, data analysis, trend analysis, and regression analysis.
- Automotive OEM / Product Development experience.
- Vehicle Weight Management.
