About the Role
A US-based fractional CFO and bookkeeping firm serving venture-backed startups, growing businesses, and nonprofits. We deliver clean, timely books and controller- and CFO-level insight to founders who need finance leadership without a full-time hire. Our team works primarily in QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, and Rillet, supported by modern tooling for close automation, payroll, and reporting. We are hiring a Senior Accounting Manager in India (remote) to own day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of US clients. As the primary hands-on accountant for your clients, you will run the month-end close, keep reconciliations current, prepare financial packages, and coordinate with our US-based controllers and CFOs. This is a client-owning role with direct communication with founders and finance leads in the US, and a meaningful opportunity to shape close standardization and automation across the firm. Working hours and location: Remote within India, full-time, with a core overlap of at least 4 hours with US Pacific time (approximately 8:30 PM – 12:30 AM IST) and flexibility around month-end close.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end monthly close for 6–10 assigned clients, including bank/credit card reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, deferred revenue, and intercompany entries
- Maintain accurate books in QuickBooks Online by categorizing bank feed activity, applying bank rules, managing the chart of accounts, and keeping vendor and customer records clean
- Process and reconcile payroll (Gusto, Rippling, Justworks, or similar) to the general ledger, including payroll liabilities and benefits
- Manage accounts payable and receivable workflows (Bill.com, Ramp, Brex, Melio), including vendor bill entry, approvals, customer invoicing, and collections follow-up
- Prepare monthly financial packages, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, budget-to-actual variance analysis, and clear commentary for client review
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly with supporting schedules, and flag and resolve variances
- Support multi-entity and consolidated reporting where applicable, including intercompany eliminations
- Prepare PBC schedules and support US tax preparers, auditors, and 1099 filings at year-end
- Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for assigned clients: respond to questions, chase open items, and escalate issues to the controller/CFO
- Document processes, improve close checklists, and contribute to close automation and standardization across the firm
- Mentor and review the work of junior accountants and bookkeepers
Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant (CA), CA Inter, CPA, or MBA (Finance)/M.Com with equivalent experience
- 5–8 years of accounting experience, including at least 5 years supporting US clients (US GAAP) in an outsourced accounting, KPO, or public accounting environment
- Expert-level QuickBooks Online proficiency; QBO ProAdvisor certification preferred
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP for small and mid-sized businesses, including accrual accounting, revenue recognition, and prepaid/accrual schedules
- Hands-on experience with US payroll platforms and AP/expense tools (e.g., Gusto, Rippling, Bill.com, Ramp, Brex, Expensify)
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills, including lookups, pivots, and reconciliation workbooks
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with US clients
- Highly organized and deadline-driven, with the ability to manage multiple clients with competing priorities
- Preferred: experience with Xero or NetSuite
- Preferred: experience with startup/SaaS clients, nonprofit fund accounting, or multi-entity consolidations
Benefits & Perks
- 15 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) annually
