About the Client
Our Client is one of the leading HVAC Sheetmetal fabricator and duct manufacturer in the South East Region of Melbourne.
Role Overview
As a CAD Draftsperson & Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate HVAC ductwork drawings and detailed cost estimates to support the successful delivery of commercial and industrial projects. You will interpret mechanical drawings and specifications, produce fabrication-ready designs using CAMduct, and prepare competitive quotations by accurately estimating material, labour, and manufacturing costs.
Working closely with project managers, engineers, and the production team, you will ensure all designs are practical, compliant, and ready for manufacture while contributing to efficient project planning and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
CAD Drafting
- Prepare detailed HVAC ductwork drawings using CAMduct.
- Interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical services drawings.
- Develop fabrication-ready ductwork layouts and manufacturing files.
- Modify drawings in response to design changes and client requirements.
- Ensure drawings comply with Australian Standards, project specifications, and company procedures.
- Liaise with the production team to resolve design or fabrication issues.
Estimating
- Review project documentation, drawings, and specifications.
- Measure quantities and prepare accurate material take-offs.
- Estimate labour, fabrication, installation, and material costs.
- Prepare quotations, tenders, and pricing proposals.
- Obtain supplier pricing where required.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost savings.
- Assist project managers during tender and project handover stages.
Project Coordination
- Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, clients, and manufacturers.
- Monitor project deadlines and prioritise workload.
- Maintain accurate project records and revision histories.
- Assist with technical queries during fabrication and installation.
Skills & Experience
- Experience with CAMduct is mandatory
- Experience with BlueBeam is mandatory
- Knowledge of HVAC ductwork systems and sheet metal fabrication.
- Ability to read architectural, mechanical, and engineering drawings.
- Strong numerical and estimating skills.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities is mandatory
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Qualifications
- Certificate IV, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Drafting, Engineering, Building Design, Mechanical Services, or a related field (preferred).
- Previous experience in HVAC, mechanical services, sheet metal fabrication, or construction estimating is mandatory.
