Roles & Responsibilities (as stated and not limited to)
1. Technical Design & Engineering
- Develop and review Single Line Diagrams (SLD), Key Line Diagrams (KLD), and General Arrangement Drawings (GAD) for substations ranging from 33kV, 66kV, 132kV, 220kV, and 400kV.
- Perform detailed engineering calculations and equipment sizing for Power Transformers, Circuit Breakers, Instrument Transformers (CT/PT), and Surge Arresters.
- Design protection and control schemes, including Distance Protection, Differential Protection, and Restricted Earth Fault (REF) schemes.
- Design and supervise Substation Automation Systems (SAS) based on IEC 61850 protocols.
- Coordinate with Civil Engineering teams for structural designs of gantries, equipment supports, cable trenches, and control room buildings while ensuring statutory electrical clearances.
2. Grid Compliance & Regulatory Affairs
- Ensure all substation designs comply with CEA (Technical Standards for Connectivity to the Grid) Regulations.
- Ensure compliance with Indian Electricity Grid Code (IEGC) 2023, including integration of Disturbance Recorders (DR), Station Event Loggers (SEL), and other mandatory monitoring systems with required data resolution.
- Coordinate and review Load Flow Studies, Short Circuit Studies, and Transient Stability Studies to ensure grid stability and renewable energy integration.
- Ensure compliance with CTU/STU connectivity requirements, grid codes, and applicable statutory regulations.
3. Project & Vendor Management
- Prepare Technical Specifications, Scope of Work, and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for procurement activities.
- Review technical bids submitted by vendors and support techno-commercial evaluations.
- Conduct and witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for major electrical equipment, including Power Transformers, GIS, AIS, and associated substation equipment.
- Coordinate with Solar, Wind, and BESS design teams to ensure seamless integration of renewable energy projects at pooling substations.
- Provide technical support during engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project execution phases.
4. Technical Standards & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure adherence to Indian Standards (IS), IEC, IEEE standards, and other applicable engineering codes.
- Support optimization of AIS (Air Insulated Substations) and GIS (Gas Insulated Substations) based on project requirements.
- Assist in the integration of STATCOMs and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) into renewable energy projects.
- Maintain engineering documentation, design calculations, technical reports, and project records.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies, industry standards, and regulatory developments in the power and renewable energy sector.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Indian Standards (IS), IEC, and IEEE 80/605 (Earthing & Busbar Design).
- Experience in STATCOM and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) integration.
- Expertise in AIS and GIS Substation Design and Optimization.
- Hands-on experience with power system analysis software such as ETAP, PSS®E, DigSILENT, and drafting tools such as AutoCAD (preferred).
- Deep understanding of CTU and STU transmission and distribution grid networks.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information effectively.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, consultants, OEMs, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
