About The Artment
The Artment is a fast-growing home and lifestyle brand building thoughtfully designed products across furniture, mirrors, storage, lighting, home décor and everyday home-utility categories.
As we scale, one of our most important strategic priorities is to develop a strong indigenous supply chain. Many of our successful products are currently sourced internationally, and we now want to build the capabilities to manufacture and source these products competitively within India.
We are looking for a senior sourcing and merchandising professional who can lead this transition.
About the Role
As Senior Manager – Sourcing & Supply Chain Development, you will be responsible for identifying, developing and scaling Indian manufacturing partners for products that are currently imported.
This is not a routine procurement role. You will work closely with the founders, product, design and operations teams to understand existing products, break down their materials and manufacturing processes, identify the right production clusters in India, develop vendors and build commercially viable domestic supply chains.
The role will be instrumental in helping The Artment improve product quality, reduce lead times, lower working-capital requirements and build long-term manufacturing capabilities in India.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the localisation and import-substitution strategy for existing product categories.
- Study currently imported products and understand their materials, components, construction techniques and manufacturing processes.
- Identify relevant manufacturers, production clusters and specialised vendors across India.
- Develop new vendors from sampling and prototyping through commercial production.
- Work with factories to improve product design, construction, packaging, quality and production efficiency.
- Negotiate product costs, payment terms, MOQs, tooling costs and commercial agreements.
- Build cost sheets and conduct detailed comparisons between imported and domestically manufactured products.
- Coordinate sampling, testing, pilot production and final commercialisation.
- Establish quality-control processes, product specifications and inspection standards.
- Develop alternate vendors and reduce dependence on single suppliers.
- Work closely with design, product, purchase, logistics, quality and marketplace teams.
- Create scalable sourcing systems that can support increasing volumes across multiple categories.
- Evaluate opportunities for exclusive manufacturing arrangements, joint investments and long-term strategic partnerships with suppliers.
- Travel extensively to manufacturing clusters and vendor locations across India.
Categories You May Work On
- Mirrors and glass products
- Furniture and storage products
- Metal and wooden home products
- Lighting and electrical home products
- Plastics, textiles, resin, ceramic and mixed-material products
- Packaging and product-protection solutions
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 7–12 years of experience in sourcing, merchandising, vendor development or manufacturing.
- Strong experience in home décor, furniture, lifestyle products, consumer durables or related categories.
- Experience working with both Chinese and Indian suppliers will be highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, product costing and quality control.
- Demonstrated experience in developing new vendors and taking products from concept or sample stage to mass production.
- Ability to reverse-engineer products and identify commercially viable manufacturing solutions.
- Strong negotiation, project-management and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial, fast-moving and highly hands-on environment.
- Willingness to travel frequently across India.
- Existing relationships with manufacturing clusters and suppliers will be an advantage.
What Success Looks Like
Over the first 12–18 months, the person in this role will be expected to:
- Successfully localise multiple high-volume products currently being imported.
- Develop a reliable network of Indian manufacturing partners.
- Reduce sourcing lead times and working-capital requirements.
- Improve product margins without compromising quality.
- Create repeatable systems for vendor development and new-category sourcing.
- Help build the foundation for The Artment to eventually own, co-own or strategically partner with manufacturing capabilities.
Why Join The Artment?
This is an opportunity to build a strategic function from the ground up.
You will play a direct role in shaping how products are designed, sourced and manufactured as The Artment scales. The long-term vision is not only to source products in India, but to develop globally competitive manufacturing capabilities that can eventually supply both the Indian and international markets.
