Brela Innovations Private Limited is a government-supported startup borne out of IIT Kanpur and KGMU, Lucknow. We are looking for a motivated engineer with expertise in RF Engineering to work on cutting-edge healthcare and sensing technologies. The role involves designing RF-enabled embedded systems operating in the MHz–GHz range, including antenna systems, RF front ends, and control firmware.
Job Description:
Title – RF Engineer
Experience - 1+ years of experience
Job Type - Permanent (On-site)
Location- IIT Kanpur
Salary – As per industry norms
Key Responsibilities:
1) RF & Antenna Design
• Design and develop RF front-end systems (GHz range)
• Design antennas for wideband and narrowband applications
• Perform EM simulations using CST / HFSS / ADS
• Work on antenna arrays and mutual coupling analysis
• Optimize impedance matching, bandwidth, gain, and efficiency
• Analyse radiation patterns, polarization, and system performance
2) Circuit & System Design
• Design RF signal chains (source → switching → receiver)
• Develop:
o LNAs, mixers, RF detectors
o Active & passive filters
• Work on impedance matching networks (50Ω systems)
• Apply knowledge of:
o Noise figure, gain, linearity, stability
o Analog signal integrity, biasing and RF architecture
3) PCB Design (High-Frequency)
• Design schematic and PCB layouts for RF circuits.
• Develop multilayer PCBs operating from MHz to GHz frequencies.
• Design controlled impedance RF traces including Microstrip and Coplanar Waveguide (CPWG)
• Plan PCB stack-up and impedance calculations.
• Implement Grounding, Shielding, Via stitching and isolation techniques.
• Minimize crosstalk, reflections, EMI, and signal loss.
• Integrate RF connectors such as SMA and other RF interfaces.
4) Embedded Systems & Firmware
• Develop firmware using Embedded C
• Interface RF components via:
o SPI / I2C / UART / GPIO
• Control:
o Frequency synthesizers, RF switches, attenuators, RF Front end modules
• Implement:
o Frequency sweeping
o Measurement automation
o Hardware control logic
5) Simulation, Testing & Validation
• Perform RF simulations:
o S-parameters (S11, S21)
o Impedance matching
o Smith Chart Analysis
• Carry out EM Simulations using CST or HFSS.
• Validate RF PCB and antenna system using VNA, Oscilloscopes, Signal generator.
• Debug RF hardware related to signal integrity, Noise, spurs, reflections and impedance mismatch.
• Conduct:
o RF debugging and tuning
o Antenna validation and measurements
• Support PCB bring-up, calibration, and testing.
Required Skills
1) Core Knowledge
• Strong understanding of Frequency and wavelength, Transmission lines, S-Parameters, RF impedance matching, RF Signal chains and 50 Ohm System design.
• Knowledge of antenna theory, antenna arrays, RF Switching networks, RF Modules and radar architecture.
2) Technical Skills
• High-frequency PCB design techniques
• 50-ohm system design
• Embedded C programming
• MATLAB (preferred)
3) Tools & Software
• EM Simulation: CST / HFSS / ADS
• PCB Design: Altium / Ki-Cad / Cadence
• RF Test Equipment handling
Additional / Nice-to-Have Skills
• Antenna array systems
• RF switching networks
• Radar systems understanding
• GHz measurement setups
• Basic embedded hardware control
• Embedded software development
Educational qualifications
• B.E. / B.Tech / M.Tech / Diploma in Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Embedded Systems, Instrumentation, or related fields
