Company Description The Soil Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory is a recently established research initiative focused on applying explainable AI to agricultural science. Its mission is to improve understanding of processes and events that strongly affect soil health and crop productivity, contributing to the development of a Soil Digital Twin. The lab operates within the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, under the leadership of Dr. Nikolaos Tziolas. Team members collaborate across disciplines, combining data science, soil science, and technology to advance sustainable agriculture. The lab offers a dynamic environment for professionals interested in cutting-edge research and real-world impact.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Reporter role based in Chennai. The Reporter will research, gather, and verify information related to the lab’s activities, projects, and findings, and transform it into clear, accurate news stories and feature articles. Daily responsibilities include conducting interviews, attending briefings and events, monitoring relevant scientific and agricultural developments, and maintaining contacts with researchers and stakeholders. The role involves writing and editing content for multiple formats, which may include online news, newsletters, social media posts, and multimedia features in coordination with the communications team. The Reporter will work closely with scientific staff to ensure complex concepts are communicated in accessible, engaging language for diverse audiences.
Qualifications
- Strong reporting and news writing skills, with the ability to research, verify facts, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in clear, concise Writing.
- Ability to produce and adapt content across Multimedia formats, such as online articles, social media, and basic audio/video.
- Demonstrated experience in science, environment, agriculture, or technology journalism is an advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to work on-site in Chennai, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail, ethical reporting standards, and familiarity with basic digital tools for research and content production.
