Retail MerchandiserKey ResponsibilitiesRange Planning and Buying
Plan and manage the product range for each season, category, and store in line with the company’s brand direction, customer demand, and sales targets.
Coordinate with suppliers, vendors, product teams, and sourcing partners to ensure timely product development, purchasing, and delivery.
Analyse market trends, customer preferences, sales history, and competitor activity to support effective buying and assortment decisions.
Review product performance and recommend new products, seasonal ranges, price points, and category expansions.
Inventory and Stock Management
Monitor stock levels, sell-through rates, replenishment, availability, and inventory movement across stores, warehouses, and online channels.
Identify slow-moving, excess, and ageing stock and recommend markdowns, promotions, transfers, or clearance activities.
Ensure optimum stock availability for key products, seasonal launches, promotional periods, and high-demand locations.
Maintain accurate product information, pricing, barcodes, descriptions, and attributes within the ERP or inventory management system.
Sales and Performance Analysis
Track category, product, store, channel, and SKU-level performance using sales reports and analytics tools.
Prepare regular retail merchandising reports covering sales, margins, stock cover, sell-through, availability, and inventory performance.
Provide actionable insights and recommendations to the management team to improve sales, profitability, and stock productivity.
Support Open-to-Buy planning, sales forecasting, inventory budgeting, and seasonal business planning.
Monitor key retail metrics including sell-through, gross margin, GMROI, stock cover, markdown percentage, and sales growth.
Vendor and Supplier Coordination
Liaise with vendors and suppliers regarding product selection, order placement, pricing, delivery schedules, quality standards, and stock availability.
Follow up on purchase orders, shipment timelines, delivery delays, shortages, damages, and product quality issues.
Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms, minimum order quantities, and commercial conditions where applicable.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors to ensure reliable supply and competitive business terms.
Store and Channel Coordination
Work closely with store operations, visual merchandising, marketing, ecommerce, warehouse, and finance teams to align product and sales strategies.
Ensure new product launches, seasonal campaigns, promotions, and key retail events are supported with the right stock levels and visibility plans.
Coordinate product allocation and replenishment across stores and sales channels based on demand, capacity, and sales performance.
Support store teams with product information, stock updates, promotional details, and merchandising requirements.
Reporting and Process Improvement
Maintain accurate buying, inventory, sales, and vendor records.
Identify opportunities to improve stock availability, reduce inventory holding costs, increase sales, and improve operational efficiency.
Support the implementation and effective use of ERP, inventory planning, retail reporting, and merchandise management systems.
Required Skills and QualificationsThe ideal candidate should have 3–5 years of experience in retail merchandising, retail buying, category management, inventory planning, or a related field.
Strong analytical and commercial skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, sales analysis, and dashboard preparation.
Good understanding of retail concepts and performance metrics such as sell-through, GMROI, Open-to-Buy, gross margin, stock cover, inventory turnover, and markdowns.
Familiarity with ERP, POS, inventory management, merchandise planning, or retail analytics systems will be an advantage.
Excellent communication, negotiation, vendor management, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
A bachelor’s degree in Retail Management, Business Administration, Merchandising, Supply Chain, or a related field is preferred.
