Role Description The Marine Engine Fitter role is a full-time, on-site position based in Mumbai, responsible for hands-on work on marine diesel engines and related mechanical systems. Day-to-day tasks include assisting with engine overhauling, dismantling and assembling components, performing routine and corrective maintenance on engines and generators, and supporting shaft alignment and hydraulic fabrication activities as directed by senior engineers. The Marine Engine Fitter will help diagnose mechanical issues, participate in onboard troubleshooting, and carry out repairs using appropriate tools, safety procedures, and technical documentation. The role involves working on various types of vessels, following maintenance schedules, preparing basic service reports, and coordinating with the engineering team to ensure reliable, safe, and timely completion of jobs. The position requires readiness to support 24/7 marine service needs, including occasional work outside standard hours based on vessel requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong familiarity with marine operations, vessel machinery spaces, and basic maritime safety practices.
- Experience working on boats or ships, or exposure to navy or commercial marine environments is beneficial.
- Ability to participate in practical training, follow technical instructions, and continuously upgrade skills in marine engine fitting.
- Knowledge of marine diesel engines, generators, and mechanical systems; basic understanding of engine overhauling and preventive maintenance.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, measuring instruments, and workshop equipment safely and accurately.
- Relevant technical qualification or vocational certification in marine engineering, mechanical engineering, or fitter trade.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and service documentation.
- Good physical stamina, attention to detail, and adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Willingness to work on-site on vessels and in workshops, including flexible hours as required by marine operations.
