Lead – Partnerships & Affinity Business
AVYA / Protector IQ
Location: Mulund, Mumbai | Office-based
Employment: Full-time
Compensation: Negotiable fixed salary plus sales-linked incentives
ABOUT US
AVYA and Protector IQ bring together insurance expertise, product innovation and technology to develop protection solutions for individuals, businesses and communities.
AVYA helps people understand their risks and find suitable insurance. Protector IQ works with insurers, technology firms and institutions on insurance innovation, product intelligence and solutions for health, climate and livelihoods.
Backed by IIMA Ventures, we are looking for a commercially driven professional to grow our partnerships, affinity business and direct insurance broking business.
THE ROLE
We are building partnerships around real protection gaps in health, business continuity, climate and livelihoods. Our approach is gender-intentional: recognising how risks and access to protection differ across genders, and using those insights to develop relevant solutions for people, businesses and communities.
We want someone who asks what people need to remain financially resilient, questions whether existing products meet that need, and brings insurers and partners together around a commercially viable response. You may have tried to introduce a different approach within an insurer, broker or financial services firm and struggled to find the space to pursue it. We value that initiative and what you learned, including when an idea did not reach launch.
This is a hands-on, revenue-owning role for someone who enjoys opening doors, acquiring new clients and partners, and closing business. You will build opportunities from scratch and take them from initial outreach to placement, activation and realised revenue.
We need a new-business hunter who can also grow the relationships they win. Success will be measured by business generated and partnerships activated, alongside client retention and growth.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
• Discover underserved protection needs through conversations with clients, communities and partners.
• Shape propositions with our underwriting and product team, challenge standard approaches where they fall short, and secure insurer and distribution partners.
• Take pilots from concept to launch, adoption and revenue, assessing whether they deliver meaningful protection as well as commercial results.
• Build a pipeline of affinity partners, including employers, financial institutions, healthtechs, professional associations, membership organisations and community networks.
• Source and close direct insurance broking business, acquiring individual, SME and corporate clients.
• Generate opportunities through targeted outreach, industry networks, referrals and events.
• Understand clients’ and partners’ needs and identify suitable insurance and protection solutions.
• Develop commercially viable partnership propositions with the founder and insurance team, with a knack for innovating and structuring insurance solutions.
• Liaise with insurers and the internal team on product fit, coverage structuring, quotations, negotiations and insurance placement.
• Lead pitches, proposals, commercial negotiations and closure.
• Take partnerships beyond signing: drive activation, customer acquisition, sales conversion and revenue.
• Own the commercial relationship from prospecting through conversion, servicing coordination and renewals.
• Identify and develop opportunities for Protector IQ’s consulting, product innovation and institutional services.
• Own agreed sales targets, maintain a disciplined pipeline and forecast, and follow through on revenue collection.
• Build repeatable approaches to acquiring partners and clients, laying the foundation for a larger sales team.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
• Curiosity about resilience, business continuity and livelihoods, and a commitment to building insurance that responds to real needs.
• Product imagination and the ability to translate an idea into a practical partnership and business proposition.
• We welcome backgrounds in insurance or financial services partnerships, affinity business, insurance broking, institutional sales, bancassurance, embedded insurance or business development.
• We welcome candidates from the wider financial sector with a strong record of acquiring partners and closing business.
• Evidence of new business you personally sourced and won, rather than experience limited to managing assigned accounts or inbound leads.
• The ability to engage decision-makers, navigate partnership sales cycles and turn relationships into paying business.
• An understanding of insurance products and an interest in developing innovative propositions. Direct broking and insurer engagement experience will be valuable.
• Strong commercial judgement, negotiation skills and disciplined follow-through.
• Comfort with revenue targets, performance-linked earnings and hands-on execution in a growing company.
• Willingness to work from our Mulund office and travel for client and partner meetings.
An existing network in insurance or financial services is valuable. Your ability to convert access and relationships into business matters most.
GROWTH INTO SENIOR LEADERSHIP
You will work directly with the founder and help shape our commercial direction. This role is intended to grow into a senior leadership position as the company scales, with increasing responsibility for business strategy, revenue and team building.
Progression will depend on sustained business results, the ability to build a repeatable sales function and readiness to recruit and lead a team.
COMPENSATION
Compensation is negotiable and will comprise a fixed salary plus sales-linked incentives.
The fixed salary is the guaranteed component. Incentives are earned on realised revenue from closed business, under an agreed incentive plan. No sales means no sales incentive; meetings, introductions, proposals or signed partnerships without revenue will not qualify for incentives.
HOW TO APPLY
Apply through LinkedIn with your CV. Tell us about something you tried to do differently in insurance or financial services: the need you saw, what you proposed, the partners you brought together and what happened. We welcome examples that did not reach launch and what you learned from them. Please also share a client or partnership you personally sourced and won, your role from initial outreach to revenue, and the results you delivered. Approximate figures are welcome where confidentiality requires.
