Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Junior Database Administrator role based in Chennai. The Junior DBA will be responsible for assisting in the administration, maintenance, monitoring, and optimization of databases supporting enterprise applications.
The role requires a strong foundation in database concepts and database design, along with good SQL skills. The candidate will work closely with developers, senior DBAs, and application teams to design efficient database structures, troubleshoot database issues, monitor database performance, and support backup, recovery, replication, and database maintenance activities.
The ideal candidate should understand databases beyond basic SQL and have a strong grasp of relational database concepts, normalization, keys, relationships, indexing, transactions, concurrency, database security, and performance optimization.
Qualifications
- 0–2 years of experience in Database Administration, Database Development, or a related field. Freshers with strong database fundamentals are encouraged to apply.
- Strong understanding of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and core database concepts.
- Strong knowledge of Database Design, Data Modeling, ER Diagrams, Normalization, Keys, Relationships, Constraints, and Referential Integrity.
- Good knowledge of SQL, including joins, subqueries, CTEs, aggregate functions, window functions, views, and complex queries.
- Understanding of Primary Keys, Foreign Keys, Composite Keys, Indexes, Views, Stored Procedures, Functions, and Triggers.
- Good understanding of Transactions, ACID properties, Concurrency, Locking, Isolation Levels, and Deadlocks.
- Understanding of database indexing and query performance optimization.
- Basic knowledge of database backup, recovery, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery concepts.
- Knowledge of at least one major database platform such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, or Oracle.
- Strong PostgreSQL knowledge will be an added advantage.
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot database-related issues.
- Understanding of database security, users, roles, permissions, and access control.
- Basic knowledge of Linux/Unix commands and shell scripting is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of database monitoring and performance analysis tools is an added advantage.
- Strong analytical, logical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Good attention to detail with a strong focus on data integrity, reliability, and security.
- Ability to work collaboratively with developers, senior DBAs, and application teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
