Functional Consultant – Retail Merchandise Planning
WSSI, Allocation & Assortment Expert Required
Please read before applying: this is a retail merchandise planning role, not a standard software testing role. Hands-on experience of merchandise planning as a planner or allocator, or implementing planning systems for retail clients is essential. APPLICATIONS WITHOUT THIS EXPERIENCE WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
Company Description
Merchmix is a merchandising and inventory operating system with intelligence at its core, designed for retailers, brands, wholesalers, and inventory-led businesses across fashion, pharmacy, general merchandise, and grocery. The platform unifies merchandise financial planning, WSSI/Merch Financial Planning, budget and OTB management, range and assortment planning, allocation and replenishment, visual merchandising, ERP, OMS, WMS, supplier collaboration, finance, and AI-driven decision intelligence into a single connected source of truth.
Role Description
You will be our in-house authority on whether our planning products get the numbers right.
Retailers run their season on our WSSI: a weekly view of sales, stock and intake, fed by locked budget data and feeding weekly trading packs, assortment planning, allocation and store grading. You will own correctness across that whole chain - defining what each measure should do, proving whether the product does it, and making that knowledge permanent so the engineering team can build on it.
This is a domain role first. We have engineers; what we need is someone who knows retail planning properly and can hold the product to that standard.
What You Will Own
• Correctness of our WSSI product — from the planning grid through to committed data.
• The full planning chain, not a single screen — locked budget data feeds WSSI, and WSSI feeds weekly trading packs and assortment planning. You will prove the numbers hold together as they move between them.
• Allocation and store grading — store grades and clusters, distribution of purchase orders across stores, replenishment and size splits, all of which draw on the same plan data.
• The definition of “correct” — documenting the expected behaviour of every planning measure: formula, dependencies, rounding and rollup rules.
• A trusted reference dataset the wider engineering team can work against.
• The standard we build to — working with developers to turn your expectations into automated checks that run continuously, so the knowledge outlives any one person. developers to turn your expectations into automated regression checks that run continuously.
• Bring an end-to-end view of the retail inventory planning cycle - budget, range and assortment, buying, allocation, in-season trading and reporting - and hold us to it as a joined-up process rather than a set of separate features.
Your Experience - What You Will Bring
Essential:
• Hands-on experience of merchandise planning - either as a planner or allocator in a retail business, or implementing and validating planning systems for retail clients.
• Solid command of planning mathematics: stock roll-forward, open to buy, cover, sell-through, markdown, weekly-to-period aggregation, and how changes at a summary level are allocated down to individual product lines.
• Working knowledge of the full inventory planning cycle - budget, range and assortment, buying, allocation, store grading, in-season trading and reporting - and how each stage depends on the last.
• Confident writing your own SQL.
• Clear, structured documentation skills - you can turn what you know into something the whole team can use.
• Experience with planning platforms
• API testing experience, or test automation exposure.
• Background in a retail technology team or a software vendor serving retailers.
You Might Be Coming From
An implementation, functional or UAT consulting role on a retail planning platform, or a merchandise planning or allocation role in a retail business where you want to move into product and technology. Both routes work well here - what matters is that you know the numbers.
