Job Summary:
Experienced Database Architect to lead the modernization of its flagship product, which currently uses the object-oriented database, to a modern, scalable object-oriented data platform such as MongoDB (or equivalent).
This role is critical to defining the target data architecture, migrating complex object models, and ensuring performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability of data layer.
The architect will work closely with product engineering, CAD domain experts, and solution architects to deliver a robust database transformation.
Key Responsibilities
• Own the end-to-end database architecture for migrating existing OODBMS to MongoDB or a suitable object-oriented NoSQL database
• Analyze existing object schemas, relationships, inheritance hierarchies, and lifecycle behaviors
• Define target object-oriented data models optimized for MongoDB, including:
1. Embedded vs referenced objects
2. Inheritance and polymorphism strategies
3. Versioned object structures
• Design and implement data migration strategies ensuring:
1. Data integrity and consistency
2. Minimal downtime and risk
3. Backward compatibility where required
• Define standards for:
1. Schema evolution and versioning
2. Indexing, sharding, and replication
3. Performance optimization for CAD-heavy workloads
• Collaborate with application teams to align object persistence patterns with MongoDB access patterns
• Architect high-availability and scalable MongoDB deployments (on-prem and/or cloud)
• Validate performance, scalability, and correctness of the new database architecture
• Produce architecture documents, migration playbooks, and technical guidelines
Required Skills/Abilities:
Object-Oriented Database & Data Modeling
• Strong hands-on experience with object-oriented databases or object persistence frameworks
• Deep understanding of:
• Object identity, inheritance, composition, and relationships
• Object lifecycle and transactional behaviour
• Proven experience mapping object models to document-based databases MongoDB Expertise
• Strong solutioning and implementation experience with MongoDB:
• Schema design for complex object graphs
• Aggregation pipelines and indexing strategies
• Transactions and consistency models
• Experience designing large-scale MongoDB deployments
• Hands-on experience with MongoDB Atlas or self-managed clusters is a plus Migration & Modernization
• Demonstrated experience migrating from:
• Legacy proprietary databases to MongoDB or NoSQL platforms
• Experience defining:
• Data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) strategies
• Validation, reconciliation, and rollback approaches Application & Technology Stack
• Strong understanding of application stacks using:
• C++ / Java / .NET–based object models
• Experience integrating MongoDB with complex engineering software
• Understanding of CAD/engineering data structures is highly desirable
Preferred / Good-to-Have Skills
• Experience with CAD, BIM, PLM, or engineering design platforms
• Knowledge of hybrid persistence approaches (polyglot persistence)
• Exposure to event-driven architectures or microservices
• Familiarity with DevOps practices for database operations (CI/CD, monitoring, backups) Non-Technical Skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work with legacy systems and complex codebases
• Clear communication with product, engineering, and leadership teams
• Experience mentoring teams and reviewing data designs
