Role Description The Commissioning Editor role at HubHawks is a full-time, on-site position based in Gurugram. In this role, the editor identifies and evaluates promising manuscripts and authors, liaises with writers and agents, and commissions new projects aligned with the company’s publishing and marketing strategy. Daily responsibilities include reviewing proposals and manuscripts, providing editorial guidance, coordinating with design, marketing, and production teams, and ensuring that projects move smoothly through the publishing pipeline. The Commissioning Editor also conducts market and audience research, monitors industry trends, and contributes to strategic decisions on positioning and promotion for each title. The role requires close collaboration, clear communication, and a strong focus on quality and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Strong manuscript evaluation skills, including the ability to assess structure, content quality, market potential, and alignment with brand and audience.
- Excellent communication skills for working with authors, agents, and internal teams, including clear feedback, negotiation, and relationship management.
- Proven editorial capabilities, such as developmental editing, line editing, and overseeing the editorial process from acquisition to publication.
- Knowledge of publishing practices and workflows, including familiarity with production timelines, marketing coordination, and industry standards.
- Solid research skills to analyze markets, readership trends, and competitive titles, and to inform commissioning decisions and positioning strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Literature, Publishing, Communications, or a related field; advanced studies in a relevant discipline are an advantage.
- Prior experience in trade or digital publishing, book marketing, or a similar editorial role is highly beneficial.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfort with basic digital tools and platforms used in publishing, project management, and content marketing.
