Company Description
Automation Builders.ai is a Melbourne-based consultancy that designs and delivers AI agents and production-grade automation systems for organisations struggling with manual, repetitive work. The team works closely with clients to understand their processes, scope problems, and build workflows that transform manual tasks into reliable, scalable automations. Automation Builders.ai operates end-to-end, from discovery and solution design through implementation and handover of systems that run with minimal human intervention. Core platforms include n8n and our own AI agent dashboard, built on the open-source Nous Hermes framework, and projects span a wide range of client technologies, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, CRMs, databases, large language models, and other tools in modern business stacks. The environment is fast-paced, hands-on, and focused on practical outcomes and measurable impact.
Role Description
This is a full-time, remote AI Agent Engineer role focused on building AI agents and extending the dashboard they run inside. We already run our own AI agent dashboard, built on the open-source Nous Hermes framework. Your core work is building on top of it: configuring and building bespoke agents for each client, extending and customising the dashboard to fit their needs, and replicating that setup across our client base.
Day to day, you will work directly with clients to understand exactly what each one needs, then design, build, and refine the agents that deliver it. You will connect those agents to the tools clients already use, such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, CRMs, databases, and LLM services, and extend the dashboard where a client needs something bespoke.
You will deploy remotely onto client infrastructure, then monitor, maintain, and iterate on both the agents and the dashboard so everything keeps running reliably. The role also includes testing and debugging, documenting your work, and handing over systems clients can operate with confidence. You will collaborate with a small, focused team, own your projects end-to-end, and help shape internal best practice for agent architecture, AI safety, and operational reliability. This is genuinely new technology moving quickly, so you will be working at the edge of what is currently possible.
Qualifications
Hands-on experience building AI agents, ideally on self-hosted agent platforms or frameworks such as Nous Hermes, OpenClaw, or comparable agent-orchestration systems.
Experience extending and customising existing web applications or dashboards across frontend and backend (for example, React/TypeScript on the frontend with a Python or Node backend).
Solid software engineering skills, with experience integrating REST APIs and webhooks and working with JSON data.
Familiarity with AI and LLM technologies, including prompt design, agent frameworks, and integrating AI models into production.
Experience deploying and maintaining software remotely, including working with servers, virtual machines, and self-hosted environments (e.g., SSH, Linux, containers).
Experience connecting to common business platforms (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, CRMs, databases) and an understanding of how to move data reliably and securely between systems.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to scope client requirements, design solutions, and iterate quickly based on feedback.
Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical solutions to non-technical clients and produce concise documentation.
Comfort working independently in a remote environment, managing your own workload, and owning projects from discovery through to delivery.
- Beneficial: prior consulting or client-facing experience, familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP), and a strong sense for data security when handling client systems.
