Software Reviewer (Part-Time)Role Summary
The Software Reviewer is responsible for ensuring the Leadist CRM backend is designed, developed, and maintained following scalable, secure, and maintainable engineering practices. This role focuses on reviewing architecture, identifying potential risks, preventing production issues, and mentoring the engineering team through technical guidance rather than writing production code.
The reviewer works closely with the Head of Technology to continuously improve software quality, development standards, system reliability, and engineering maturity.

Success in this role means the engineering team consistently delivers robust, scalable, and maintainable software with fewer production incidents. The reviewer proactively identifies architectural weaknesses, uncovers hidden bugs before release, improves code quality, guides DevOps best practices, and mentors engineers to adopt industry-standard software engineering principles.
Within the first six months, the reviewer should help establish a strong engineering culture where code reviews, architectural decisions, deployment strategies, and backend services follow scalable and maintainable standards.
How This Role Fits Into the Organization
The Software Reviewer serves as an independent technical advisor for the engineering team. Rather than participating in day-to-day feature development, this role provides strategic oversight across backend architecture, software quality, DevOps practices, and engineering standards.
The reviewer reports directly to the Head of Technology and collaborates with backend developers, frontend developers, DevOps engineers, and product stakeholders to ensure Leadist CRM remains scalable as the platform grows.
Responsibilities
- Review backend architecture to identify scalability, maintainability, and reliability concerns.
- Analyze codebases to identify bugs, hidden edge cases, technical debt, and tightly coupled implementations.
- Recommend architectural improvements using SOLID principles, Clean Architecture, Domain-Driven Design, and other software engineering best practices.
- Evaluate APIs for performance, security, consistency, and long-term maintainability.
- Identify risks that could lead to production incidents before software is released.
- Review database design, indexing strategies, query performance, and data consistency.
- Assess backend modules for extensibility and recommend improvements that reduce future development effort.
- Guide the engineering team in writing clean, reusable, and testable code.
- Review pull requests and provide constructive technical feedback.
- Mentor developers on scalable backend design patterns and engineering best practices.
- Recommend improvements to CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, containerization, monitoring, and infrastructure.
- Review authentication, authorization, and security implementations to reduce vulnerabilities.
- Help define coding standards, architecture guidelines, and engineering documentation.
- Collaborate with the Head of Technology on long-term technical strategy.
- Support major technical decisions without becoming part of daily implementation work.
QualificationsExperience
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Extensive experience designing and reviewing scalable backend systems.
- Experience reviewing enterprise-grade software architectures.
- Proven ability to mentor engineering teams.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of Node.js and TypeScript.
- Experience with NestJS or similar backend frameworks.
- Deep understanding of RESTful API design.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
- Experience with Redis, RabbitMQ/Kafka, caching, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
- Understanding of cloud infrastructure and DevOps best practices.
- Experience with Git workflows and code review processes.
- Familiarity with microservices and distributed systems is preferred.
