About the Role
- We are looking for an experienced Senior NPD & Production Engineer with strong expertise in plastic product development and injection molding.
- The ideal candidate should have a strong technical background along with a creative and analytical mindset, with the ability to challenge existing product concepts, suggest design improvements, and develop new and complex plastic products.
- This will primarily be a technical project leadership and coordination role rather than a shop-floor position.
- The person will lead multiple product development projects and coordinate closely with production engineers, quality teams, tooling teams, vendors, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead New Product Development (NPD) projects for complex plastic and injection-molded products from concept through development and production.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to timelines, quality standards, cost targets, and customer requirements.
- Review existing and new products and suggest improvements in design, functionality, material selection, manufacturability, and cost.
- Coordinate with production engineers and manufacturing teams for product trials, process development, production readiness, and issue resolution.
- Apply strong technical knowledge of injection molding, molds, tooling, plastic materials, molding processes, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Review and interpret 2D drawings, 3D models, engineering specifications, tolerances, and technical documentation.
- Analyze a product to understand its application, functionality, manufacturing process, technical feasibility, and potential improvement areas.
- Coordinate mold development, trials, modifications, validation, and final production approval.
- Support production planning, including materials, tooling, resources, capacity, timelines, and production requirements.
- Identify and resolve technical challenges related to molding, dimensional accuracy, fitment, assembly, functionality, and overall product performance.
- Work closely with Quality teams on root cause analysis, CAPA, inspection standards, rejection reduction, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain strong attention to detail across product design, drawings, specifications, tooling, quality requirements, and project documentation.
- Coordinate effectively with customers, vendors, suppliers, tool rooms, production, quality, and other internal teams.
- Support product development for export and international customers, ensuring customer-specific technical and quality requirements are met.
- Drive continuous improvement, value engineering, cost reduction, and process optimization initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of relevant experience in NPD, Production Engineering, Product Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Strong expertise in Injection Molding and Plastic Product Manufacturing.
- Proven experience in developing complex plastic products from concept to production.
- Strong experience in project management and cross-functional coordination.
- Good understanding of molds, tooling, plastics, molding defects, material selection, and DFM principles.
- Ability to understand, review, and analyze 2D and 3D engineering drawings.
- Strong product analysis, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Good understanding of quality systems, dimensional tolerances, RCA, CAPA, inspection methods, and product validation.
- Strong attention to detail with a creative and improvement-oriented mindset.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with export or international customers.
- Exposure to FMEA, APQP, PPAP, SPC, 8D, or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience in tooling development, vendor development, product costing, or value engineering.
The ideal candidate should be a technically strong NPD professional who can independently take ownership of products and projects, understand their end application, identify potential design or manufacturing challenges, and coordinate all stakeholders to successfully take the product from concept to production.
