Senior Embedded Systems & IoT Firmware Engineer

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Embedded Systems & IoT Firmware Engineer with a strong background in Electronics and Communication Engineering to lead the design, development, and optimization of next-generation connected sensing systems. This role requires hands-on experience in embedded hardware, firmware development, wireless communications, cloud connectivity, and IoT system integration.
The ideal candidate has worked on real-world commercial products from concept through deployment and enjoys solving multidisciplinary engineering challenges involving sensors, embedded electronics, cloud software, and communications infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
Embedded Hardware & Electronics:
- Design, evaluate, and improve embedded electronic systems for industrial IoT applications.
- Develop and optimize hardware architectures for data loggers, sensor interfaces, communication modules, and edge computing devices.
- Perform hardware debugging, board bring-up, and system validation.
- Analyze existing products and reverse engineer hardware to identify alternate components, improve reliability, reduce cost, and mitigate supply chain risks.
- Redesign electronic systems using equivalent or improved components while maintaining functionality and regulatory compliance.
- Develop schematics, review PCB layouts, and collaborate with manufacturing partners.
Firmware Development:
- Develop embedded firmware for ARM Cortex-M, STM32, ESP32, NXP, TI, or similar microcontrollers.
- Write efficient C/C++ firmware for real-time embedded systems.
- Develop bootloaders, drivers, communication stacks, and device management software.
- Implement firmware for sensor acquisition, data processing, storage, and wireless communications.
- Optimize firmware performance, memory utilization, and power consumption.
- Support OTA (Over-the-Air) firmware updates and secure device management.
Sensor & Device Integration:
- Interface and integrate various industrial sensors including:
- Accelerometers
- Strain gauges
- Temperature sensors
- Humidity sensors
- Pressure sensors
- Vibration sensors
- Cameras
- GPS modules
- IMUs
- Develop communication interfaces using:
- SPI
- I2C
- UART
- CAN
- RS-485
- Ethernet
- USB
Communications & Networking:
Design and implement communication solutions using technologies such as:
- LTE/4G/5G
- Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth/BLE
- LoRa/LoRaWAN
- Zigbee

- HTTPS
- WebSockets
Cloud & Software Development:
- Develop secure communication between embedded devices and cloud platforms.
- Build software services to collect, process, and visualize IoT data.
- Integrate embedded devices with cloud infrastructure including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Develop REST APIs and backend services for connected products.
- Implement secure authentication, encryption, and certificate-based communications.
- Support cloud deployment, monitoring, and software delivery pipelines.
- Collaborate with frontend and backend developers to deliver complete IoT solutions.
System Architecture:
- Design complete end-to-end IoT architectures from sensor to cloud.
- Build scalable communication infrastructure for thousands of connected devices.
- Develop remote monitoring, diagnostics, and device management capabilities.
- Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements to hardware and software architecture.
Product Development:
- Participate in the full product lifecycle from concept through production.
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, manufacturing, and quality teams.
- Support field deployments, troubleshooting, and customer installations.
- Prepare technical documentation, design specifications, and test procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in:
- Electronics Engineering
- Electronics & Communication Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Embedded Systems
- Computer Engineering
- or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on industry experience developing commercial embedded products.
- Proven experience delivering real-time embedded systems from design through deployment.
- Strong proficiency in embedded C/C++.
- Experience with RTOS environments such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or ThreadX.
- Strong understanding of digital and analog electronics.
- Experience with PCB design review and hardware debugging.
- Experience integrating industrial sensors and cameras with embedded systems.
- Experience connecting embedded devices to cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of networking protocols and IoT communication technologies.
- Experience using Git and collaborative software development practices.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AWS IoT Core, Azure IoT Hub, or Google Cloud IoT.
- Experience with Linux-based embedded systems.
- Familiarity with Python, C#, Java, or Node.js.
- Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of FPGA or DSP systems.
- Experience with industrial automation, structural health monitoring, rail transportation, smart infrastructure, or edge AI applications.
- Experience with secure boot, TPM, encryption, and cybersecurity for connected devices.
- Familiarity with camera systems, image processing, or computer vision.
- Experience with OTA firmware deployment and remote diagnostics.
- Knowledge of FCC, CE, UL, or other regulatory compliance standards.
