Role Description The Second Engineer is responsible for assisting the Chief Engineer in the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all engine room and auxiliary machinery on board. This full-time, on-site role in Mumbai involves monitoring equipment performance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Daily tasks include supervising maintenance routines, overseeing repairs, maintaining logs and records, and coordinating with deck and shore teams to support smooth vessel operations. The Second Engineer also helps implement planned maintenance systems, participates in safety drills, and supports continuous improvement of engineering procedures and standards.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Marine Operations and Maritime knowledge, including familiarity with vessel systems and shipboard procedures.
- Candidates should possess STCW-compliant certifications and a solid understanding of international maritime safety and regulatory standards.
- Candidates should possess Maintenance & Repair skills related to marine engines, auxiliary machinery, and onboard mechanical systems.
- Candidates should possess practical experience working with Boat and other marine craft, including handling operational and technical requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Marine Engineering or a related discipline, with a valid Second Engineer license from a recognized maritime authority.
- Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and technical documentation skills, with attention to safety and detail.
- Ability to work in rotating shifts and in demanding onboard environments, with effective teamwork and communication skills.
- Previous shipboard experience as a Third Engineer or equivalent role is highly beneficial.
