About the role
We are hiring an Oracle EBS Systems Engineer to work as a dedicated, fully remote member of the IT team at a US discrete manufacturer. You will be the hands-on Oracle engineer for a single global R12 instance spanning multiple manufacturing plants — covering supply chain, manufacturing and financials — working directly with the client's IT leadership and alongside their managed services partner.
This is a build-and-fix role, not an oversight role. You will be the person who writes the SQL, loads the interface file, traces the stuck concurrent request and explains to a planner why ASCP is recommending what it is recommending. If your recent work has been mostly directing others or routing issues to third parties, this is not the right role for you and we would rather say so now.
The environment
Detail
ERP
Oracle E-Business Suite R12.2.6, currently being upgraded to R12.2.15
Hosting
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). An OCI and database upgrade is already under way.
Supply Chain
Inventory, Purchasing, Order Management, Shipping, iProcurement, ASCP
Manufacturing
Discrete Manufacturing, Work in Process, Bill of Materials, Quality, MSCA, Engineering
Financials
General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, Fixed Assets, E-Business Tax
Support model
A managed services partner holds infrastructure and deep DBA work. You are the client-side engineer who owns the application and the integrations, and who holds that partner to account.
What you will actually be doing
First 90 days
• Join the in-flight OCI and database upgrade, and then the EBS R12.2.6 → R12.2.15 upgrade — a technical uplift with backup and resiliency components, not a re-implementation.
• Take ownership of an EDI project: an EDI partner delivers a flat file; you transform it and ingest it into Oracle through staging and interface tables, with proper error handling, rejects and reprocessing. You build this inside the platform.
Ongoing
• Own Oracle configuration and limited custom development — reports, extensions, personalisations, interfaces — across SCM, Manufacturing and Financials.
• Define and monitor Oracle transaction flows so data stays accurate across the manufacturing lifecycle, from BOM and routing through WIP to completion and the resulting accounting.
• Run root cause analysis on production issues and provide options, not just tickets. Most urgent problems surface late in the US day — you will be the person online when they do.
• Partner with the master data team on items, BOMs and other critical elements that drive planning and execution.
• Support and train end users at HQ and the plants; produce documentation and train-the-trainer material.
• Work with the OCI environment: understand the compute, storage, networking and database layer well enough to diagnose, to specify, and to challenge the managed services partner intelligently.
• Identify gaps between current and future-state processes and propose improvements that are actually deliverable.
What you must bring
Essential
• Hands-on Oracle E-Business Suite R12.2 experience. This is EBS, not Fusion. Fusion-only backgrounds will not suit.
• Genuine balance across both sides of Oracle: functional depth in the modules AND real technical ability. Most Oracle people are deep in one bucket. We need someone credible in both.
• SQL and PL/SQL you have written yourself. Interface and integration work — staging tables, standard import programs, error handling, restartability.
• Discrete manufacturing and supply chain experience: Inventory, Purchasing, Order Management, WIP, BOM, ASCP.
• Working competence with EBS on OCI, or with EBS in any cloud environment.
• Ability to diagnose independently: concurrent request logs, FND tables, locking, long-running sessions, patch and ADOP behaviour.
• Excellent spoken and written English, and the confidence to work directly with US business users, IT leadership and a third-party managed services partner.
Desirable
• Experience of an EBS upgrade (12.1 → 12.2, or a 12.2 patch-level uplift) and of Online Patching / ADOP.
• EDI experience in a manufacturing or distribution setting.
• Scripting beyond PL/SQL: Python, Bash, PowerShell. XML Publisher / BI Publisher reporting. OA Framework personalisation.
• Oracle certification (OCA or above).
• Prior experience delivering to US clients from a remote or offshore location.
Typical background: 8–15 years in Oracle EBS. This is a mature product and the strongest people in it are experienced. We care about what you can do, not about your degree — capability is assessed through a practical technical exercise, not a CV.
Working arrangements
Detail
Location
Fully remote. No relocation, no travel, no on-site requirement.
Hours
Coverage of US Central business hours is required. The firm minimum is 12:00–17:00 US Central, Monday to Friday, to overlap with the client team and their managed services partner. Broader US-hours coverage is preferred and rewarded.
Sustainability
We are explicitly not looking for someone to work through the night. We want a schedule you can hold for years, not weeks — be honest with us about what you can genuinely sustain.
Reporting
You report into TulipTech and work day to day under the direction of the client's Senior Director of IT and their technical lead.
Engagement
Full-time, long-term engagement through TulipTech.
