About the job
Role Overview
As a Junior Structural Engineer at Vir Structural, you will support our engineering team on the analysis, design, and documentation of US structural projects. Working directly with senior engineers and our licensed PE, you will perform structural calculations, design wood and steel members and connections, and coordinate your designs into complete structural drawing sets in Autodesk Revit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Structural Analysis & Design: Perform gravity and lateral load calculations and design structural members and connections for residential and commercial projects in accordance with US codes (IBC, ASCE 7).
- Steel Design: Design structural steel beams, columns, moment frames, and connections per AISC 360 and AISC 341 where applicable.
- Wood Design: Design timber/wood framing systems, including joists, beams, headers, posts, and shear walls, per NDS and SDPWS.
- Revit Coordination: Develop and review structural models and drawing sets in Autodesk Revit, ensuring calculations and drawings stay fully coordinated.
- Calculation Packages: Prepare clear, well-organized structural calculation packages for senior engineer review and permit submittal.
- Quality Assurance: Self-check all calculations and drawings for accuracy, code compliance, and consistency before review.
- Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: B.Tech or M.Tech in Civil Engineering (or Structural Engineering).
- US Experience (Required): Prior experience working with or for a US-based structural engineering firm is mandatory.
- AISC Knowledge (Required): Strong working knowledge of AISC 360 steel design and connection design.
- Wood & Steel Experience (Required): Hands-on design experience with both timber/wood framing and structural steel systems.
- Revit Skills (Required): Solid, hands-on proficiency in Autodesk Revit Structure.
Experience: 1–3 years of structural design experience in a professional engineering environment.
