About the Role
This is a frontend-focused role for a small but high-ownership engineering team. You will primarily own a complex React product used by tax professionals to prepare and file returns, featuring thousands of taxpayer inputs, validation layers, and interdependent state. Collaboration with engineers building the calculation engine and APIs is key. While frontend-focused, strong React/TypeScript depth is essential, and some backend experience is a plus. The role requires a deep understanding of complicated frontend UI systems to facilitate a tight, iterative loop between in-house tax experts and engineers, translating feedback into product improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and evolve a complex React application for preparing returns, including thousands of taxpayer inputs, validation layers, state dependencies, and day-to-day workflow.
- Make a large, data-dense product fast, reliable, maintainable, and understandable as it grows through frontend architecture decisions.
- Partner with backend engineers to shape API contracts and help ensure the product accurately reflects the calculation engine.
- Work directly with in-house CPAs/EAs to translate their feedback into concrete product and UX decisions.
Qualifications
- Deep experience building production React and TypeScript applications.
- Experience building data-dense, form-heavy interfaces at scale, including large repeating field sets, complex validation, or reliable state across hundreds of controls.
- Strong frontend architecture judgment around client state, validation, performance, testing, and maintainability.
- Careful reasoning about systems with extensive dependencies, edge cases, and state.
- A bias toward shipping: getting real work in front of customers, learning, and iterating while ensuring accuracy, validation, and auditability.
- Comfort working in a small, early-stage team with high ownership and little separation between product and engineering; some full-stack or backend exposure is a plus.
