Role Overview:
We are looking for a hands-on Electrical Engineer to support the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of sophisticated scientific instruments and additive manufacturing machinery. The ideal candidate combines strong skills in interface understanding and PLC programming with a solid grounding in mechatronic design, and is comfortable working independently on advanced, precision equipment.
Responsibilities:
• Carry out installation, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance on scientific instruments (e.g., PVD/CVD systems, plasma cleaners, SEM/TEM specimen preparation equipment, wafer metrology systems) as well as additive manufacturing machinery.
• Understand, interpret, and work with electrical and electronic interfaces (sensors, controllers, communication protocols, and control panels) across a wide range of scientific instruments.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and mechatronic faults on-site at customer facilities, ensuring minimal downtime.
• Apply mechatronic design principles to system design, upgrades, retrofits, and integration projects.
• Liaise with principal manufacturers for technical training, escalations, and spare parts support.
• Research and identify replacement parts, run cost-benefit analysis on repair/replacement options, and procure the required parts.
• Maintain accurate service reports, maintenance logs, and troubleshooting documentation.
• Travel extensively to customer sites across India for installation, commissioning, and after-sales service, independently planning and booking own travel itineraries.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in electrical/electronic engineering, ideally with scientific instruments, laboratory equipment, or industrial automation systems.
• Strong skill in understanding and working with electrical/electronic interfaces.
• Practical experience in PLC programming and design (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or equivalent platforms).
• Ability to work across scientific instruments of all kinds as well as additive manufacturing (3D printing) machinery.
• Self-driven and highly motivated, with the ability to solve problems independently and make sound decisions in the field with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in the field.
• Willingness to travel extensively across India for on-site support, including independently planning and booking own travel itineraries.
• Clean legal record, with no prior or pending legal cases, and the ability to obtain security clearances and pass background checks as required by national institutions and government customers.
• Fluency in English and Hindi is a must, alongside good communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience supporting or servicing scientific/laboratory instrumentation, such as vacuum systems, deposition systems, or microscopy-related equipment.
• Exposure to after-sales support models for imported/globally sourced technical equipment.
• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, or a related field.
• Fluency in regional languages preferred
• Analogue & digital I/O, communication protocols such as RS-232, Ethernet/IP, Ladder Logic, Omron and similar
- Program, configure, and design PLC-based control systems to support equipment automation and functionality.
