Hiring: Chartered Accountant – Direct Tax Litigation

Job Profile – Direct Tax Litigation
We are looking for a Chartered Accountant with 3–5 years of relevant experience in Direct Tax Litigation to independently manage and support end-to-end income-tax litigation matters, including assessment, reassessment, first appellate proceedings before CIT(A), and proceedings before the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT).
Key Responsibilities
- Handle end-to-end direct tax litigation matters, primarily focusing on income-tax assessment, reassessment, and appellate proceedings before CIT(A) and ITAT.
- Represent and assist clients in assessment and reassessment proceedings, including examination of notices, identification of legal and factual issues, and preparation of detailed submissions before the Assessing Officer.
- Draft and review comprehensive responses to Show Cause Notices (SCNs), assessment notices, reassessment notices, and other proceedings initiated under the Income-tax Act, 1961.
- Prepare legal submissions, factual explanations, objections, and replies supported by relevant provisions of the Income-tax Act, Rules, Circulars, Notifications, and applicable judicial precedents.
- Handle appellate matters before CIT(A) and ITAT, including drafting Grounds of Appeal, Statements of Facts, written submissions, rejoinders, paper books, and other appellate documents.
- Conduct in-depth legal and tax research on direct tax issues, including interpretation of statutory provisions, procedural requirements, and relevant judicial precedents.
- Analyse assessment/reassessment orders, SCNs, notices, and appellate orders to identify errors, disputed issues, tax exposures, and potential grounds of appeal.
- Develop litigation strategies and formulate case-specific legal arguments based on facts, statutory provisions, and applicable judicial precedents.
- Prepare case-law-based written submissions and assist in oral arguments and hearing preparation before CIT(A) and ITAT.
- Manage and monitor direct tax litigation matters across assessment, reassessment, first appellate, and ITAT proceedings, ensuring timely completion of pleadings, submissions, and procedural requirements.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) with 3–5 years of relevant experience in Direct Tax Litigation, Tax Advisory, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of Income-tax assessments, reassessments, appeals, drafting, legal notices, and litigation proceedings.
- Practical experience in handling matters before Assessing Officers, CIT(A), and ITAT.
- Strong knowledge of the Income-tax Act, 1961, Income-tax Rules, CBDT Circulars/Notifications, and direct-tax jurisprudence.
- Excellent legal drafting, analytical, research, and communication skills.
- Ability to independently handle multiple litigation matters and meet statutory deadlines.
- Candidates with experience in CA firms, tax litigation practices, Big 4, or corporate tax litigation teams will be preferred.
