The role
Teach the life sciences component of B.Sc. — animal or plant biology depending on your specialisation — with dissection, microscopy, and field-based practical work. The Ganga plain, its agriculture and its riverine ecology sit at the doorstep, and fieldwork here is a genuine teaching resource rather than a textbook exercise.
Full-time, on-site at Babatpur, Varanasi.
Responsibilities
Subject teaching — Zoology
- Animal diversity, invertebrate and vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy
- Cell biology, genetics, evolution, and developmental biology
- Animal physiology, ecology, and environmental biology
- Practical work: dissection and demonstration, microscopy, histology, museum specimen preparation and maintenance
Subject teaching — Botany
- Plant diversity — algae, fungi, bryophytes, pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms
- Plant anatomy, morphology, taxonomy, and systematics
- Plant physiology, ecology, genetics, and economic botany
- Practical work: microscopy, section cutting and staining, herbarium preparation and maintenance, field collection
Shared responsibilities
- Teach cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, biotechnology and environmental science units common to both streams
- Run the biology laboratory — specimen and slide collections, microscopes, reagents, and safety and ethical handling protocols
- Plan and lead field studies — biodiversity surveys, riverine and agricultural ecology, and specimen collection with student groups
- Support the MA Home Science (Human Development and Food & Nutrition) programmes where biological sciences underpin the syllabus
- Mentor students toward M.Sc., PhD, and pathways in agriculture, forestry, environmental science, biotechnology and life sciences
Curriculum, assessment and department
- Design and update course content to MGKVP syllabi under the NEP 2020 framework
- Set and evaluate internal assessments aligned to MGKVP examination patterns
- Contribute to departmental research output and to institutional academic and co-curricular activity
Qualifications
Essential
- M.Sc. Zoology or M.Sc. Botany from a UGC-recognised university
- UGC NET or PhD in the relevant subject — required for this appointment
- Ability to teach at undergraduate level and to run laboratory practicals
- Ability to plan and lead field studies with student groups
- Fluency in Hindi and English — students come largely from Purvanchal and Bihar, and teaching is bilingual
- Willingness to teach under the NEP 2020 multidisciplinary structure, where students combine subjects across streams
Preferred
- Prior UG teaching with laboratory and field responsibility
- Experience building or maintaining a herbarium or zoological museum collection
- Molecular biology or biotechnology laboratory experience
- Publications or research experience in taxonomy, ecology, physiology, or a related field
- Experience preparing students for JAM, GATE, NET, or agricultural entrance examinations
