Role Title: Assistant Legal Manager

Role Overview
The Assistant Legal Manager will support the legal function in handling contracts, legal documentation, compliance-related matters, internal legal coordination, legal data creation, and MIS management. The role requires a legally qualified professional with strong drafting and review skills, sound legal knowledge, and compulsory experience in managing legal trackers, data, and reporting for business and management requirements.
1. Department / team / sub-team Objective: To support the organization’s legal function through timely contract management, legal risk review, compliance support, and accurate legal data and MIS reporting for effective business decision-making.
2. Area of responsibility: Commercial contract drafting and review, legal documentation, legal research, compliance support, legal data creation, tracker maintenance, MIS reporting, and coordination with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
3. Key results / outputs and impact on organizational goal: Timely closure of contracts, improved legal risk visibility, accurate and updated legal records, reliable MIS for management review, and consistent support to business teams on legal and compliance matters.
4. Duties of the role: Draft, review, vet, and negotiate contracts, agreements, notices, letters, undertakings, and other legal documents; conduct legal research; support compliance requirements; create and maintain legal trackers; prepare recurring MIS and dashboards; coordinate on notices, disputes, and advisory matters; and help standardize legal templates and workflows.
5. Things candidate is expected to do by themselves: Independently handle first-level contract review and drafting, manage legal data and trackers, prepare MIS reports, identify routine legal and compliance risks, coordinate with stakeholders for document closure, and maintain accuracy and timeliness of assigned legal workstreams.
6. Things they will get guidance / support on: Complex negotiations, strategic legal positions, high-risk legal issues, litigation strategy, regulatory interpretation in nuanced matters, and exceptional business arrangements requiring senior legal review.
Required Skills & Competencies
(Key competencies and skills required for success in this role)
- Technical Skills: Strong legal drafting, contract review, legal documentation, legal research, compliance support, and practical knowledge of contract and commercial legal issues. Compulsory hands-on experience in legal data creation, tracker management, MIS preparation, dashboard reporting, and strong working knowledge of Excel and structured data handling.
- Communication Skills: Ability to prepare clear and concise emails, contract markups, legal notes, issue summaries, tracker updates, and periodic MIS reports. The candidate should be able to communicate legal risks and status updates to internal stakeholders with clarity and structure on a regular basis.
- Customer Backward thinking: Understands internal stakeholder requirements and provides solution-oriented legal support while balancing business needs with legal and compliance safeguards.
- Problem Solving: Ability to identify legal, contractual, and process-related issues early, analyze risks, and recommend practical solutions with appropriate escalation where needed.
- Ability to get things done: Should be execution-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of independently driving documentation, follow-ups, legal data maintenance, and MIS reporting within timelines.
- Strategic Thinking and Prioritization: Able to distinguish high-risk matters from routine matters, prioritize legal requests based on business urgency and risk, and maintain structured reporting visibility for the legal function.
- Leadership: Expected to demonstrate ownership, reliability, and strong collaboration with cross-functional teams, while building trust as a dependable legal and reporting resource.
Relevant Experiences
(Qualifications and experience required)
- Years of Experience (Minimum years of relevant experience): Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in legal drafting, contract review, legal documentation, compliance support, or in-house legal work.
- Industry Experience (Specify if industry-specific experience is needed or preferred): Experience in fintech, financial services, lending, NBFC, mobility, automotive, or other regulated sectors will be preferred.
- Educational Background (List required degrees or certifications, if any): Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) is compulsory.
