Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled AS400 Engineer / Lead with 3–15 years of experience in designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting enterprise applications on the IBM AS400 (IBM i) platform. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in RPG development, CL programming, DB2/400 databases, and production support. The candidate will work closely with business users, analysts, architects, and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and scalable business solutions.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications on the IBM AS400 (IBM i) platform.
- Develop and enhance programs using RPG III, RPG IV, RPGLE, and ILE RPG.
- Create and maintain CL programs, batch jobs, job scheduling, and system utilities.
- Design and optimize DB2/400 databases, SQL queries, and database objects.
- Develop and maintain DDS files, physical files, logical files, display files, and printer files.
- Perform application enhancements, bug fixes, and production support activities.
- Analyze business requirements and convert them into technical solutions.
- Develop and consume APIs, FTP integrations, and MQ Series-based interfaces.
- Perform code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and deployment activities.
- Troubleshoot application issues, perform debugging, and conduct root cause analysis.
- Optimize application performance and implement best practices for coding and database design.
- Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, and infrastructure teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare technical documentation, design documents, and support manuals.
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance for complex development activities.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, release planning, and production deployments.
Required Skills
- Strong experience with IBM AS400 (IBM i).
- Hands-on expertise in RPG III, RPG IV, RPGLE, and ILE RPG.
- Experience with CL Programming.
- Strong knowledge of DB2/400 and SQL.
- Experience with DDS (Display Files, Printer Files, Physical & Logical Files).
- Knowledge of COBOL on AS400 is preferred.
- Experience with Query/400.
- Experience integrating applications using MQ Series, FTP, APIs, and web services.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and production support experience.
- Knowledge of application performance tuning and optimization.
- Familiarity with SDLC, Agile, and DevOps practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- IBM i / AS400 certifications are an added advantage.
- Experience working in Banking, Insurance, Manufacturing, Retail, or Supply Chain domains is preferred.
- Experience with modernization or migration projects is a plus.
