Key Responsibilities- Backend & API Development: Design, build, and maintain robust, high-performance backend services and APIs using Python and FastAPI. Serve ML model inferences, manage background task processing, and ensure seamless data flow to responsive UI frontend teams.
- Cost-Optimized GCP Infrastructure: Architect, implement, and manage scalable cloud infrastructure exclusively on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Proactively monitor cloud usage, right-size resources, and implement best practices to maintain a highly cost-optimized environment without sacrificing performance.
- CI/CD & Containerization: Own the deployment lifecycle. Build, maintain, and secure robust CI/CD pipelines to ensure fast, automated, and reliable releases. Utilize Docker extensively for containerizing applications and standardizing environments from local development to production.
- Monitoring, Logging & Alerting: Design and implement comprehensive observability suites. Set up proactive monitoring and alerting (e.g., GCP Cloud Monitoring, Prometheus, Datadog) to ensure system health, track performance bottlenecks, and trigger automated rollbacks during incidents.
- Data & ML Pipeline Support: Manage cloud data storage, database systems, and messaging/queuing systems that power our image/video processing and ML pipelines.
- Security & Best Practices: Manage secrets securely, oversee access control, and advocate for Platform/MLOps software engineering best practices across the team.
Requirements- 5+ years of proven experience in Backend Engineering, Platform Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, or MLOps.
- Backend Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in Python with deep, hands-on experience building production-grade APIs and microservices using FastAPI.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Extensive experience with GCP. You must know how to architect for scale while strictly managing and optimizing cloud costs (e.g., utilizing Spot VMs, optimizing Cloud Run/GKE, lifecycle management).
- DevOps & Automation: Strong practical experience with containerization (Docker) and designing fully automated CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
- Observability: Proven track record of configuring and managing monitoring, logging, and alerting tools to maintain highly available systems and respond to production incidents.
- Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience with IaC tools (e.g., Terraform) to manage cloud resources reproducibly.
- Engineering Fundamentals: Solid understanding of software engineering best practices (testing, version control, clean code architecture) and database design.
- Startup DNA: Ability to work independently, take initiative, own projects end-to-end, and drive them to completion in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Nice to Have- Experience with GCP-specific container orchestration (Google Kubernetes Engine or Cloud Run).
- Experience with high-availability systems and real-time video/image data processing pipelines.
- Mild familiarity with Go (Golang) and/or JavaScript (JS/TypeScript).
- Experience scaling systems and processes within a startup environment, ideally seeing growth from Seed to Series A stages.
