Senior Platform Engineer — GitHub Governance & Operations
Engagement Type: Contract through end of CY27, with likely extension
Location: Remote, India
Seniority: Level 3 — Senior
Organization: IT — Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) / Developer Experience Platform (DEP)
Reporting: Engineering Manager, with day-to-day direction from GitHub Governance Architect and ALM Technical Lead
Target Start Date: August 2026
Time Zone: 3–4 hours daily overlap with US Eastern Time
About the Role
Our client is formalizing governance of its GitHub Enterprise Cloud environment, covering 80+ organizations and thousands of users.
The successful candidate will independently drive GitHub governance initiatives from policy design and planning through implementation, enterprise-wide rollout, and compliance verification.
This is a senior technical role requiring strong ownership, sound technical judgment, and the ability to execute initiatives with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive GitHub governance initiatives across the enterprise.
- Own initiatives from policy design through implementation and compliance verification.
- Plan and execute enterprise-wide configuration changes.
- Implement policies, rulesets, and security controls across 80+ organizations.
- Lead credential remediation programs and execute remediation activities.
- Communicate with organization owners and track remediation progress.
- Manage the governed change pipeline.
- Design, test, stage, and roll out configuration changes with proper rollback procedures.
- Drive IAM enforcement initiatives including SSO, SCIM, and team synchronization.
- Manage outside-collaborator governance.
- Identify governance gaps and proactively propose solutions.
- Manage ServiceNow (SNOW) tickets related to GitHub services.
- Maintain compliance documentation and audit evidence.
- Automate repetitive governance tasks using Python/Bash.
- Participate in on-call support for GitHub platform incidents.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of DevOps or Platform Operations experience.
- Strong GitHub administration experience.
- Experience with GitHub Organizations, GitHub Apps, GitHub Actions, Branch Protection, and CODEOWNERS.
- Proficiency in Python and/or Bash scripting.
- Experience with REST APIs, webhooks, and automation.
- Familiarity with compliance processes and documentation.
- Strong technical documentation skills.
- Experience creating runbooks, procedures, and architecture diagrams.
- Comfortable working across different time zones.
- Experience with ITSM/ticketing systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GitHub Enterprise Cloud administration.
- Experience with Terraform or Ansible.
- Experience with enterprise IAM integration.
- Knowledge of SSO/SAML and SCIM.
- Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments with 1,000+ developers.
