Role Description The Robotics Mechanical Design Engineer role at HRplacers is a full-time, on-site position based in Mumbai. In this role, the engineer designs and develops mechanical systems and components for robotic platforms, including frames, actuators, linkages, and enclosures. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating detailed 3D models and engineering drawings, performing tolerance analysis, and collaborating with electrical, controls, and software teams to ensure seamless system integration. The engineer participates in design reviews, selects materials and manufacturing processes, coordinates with vendors, and supports prototype builds and testing. The role also involves troubleshooting mechanical issues, implementing design improvements based on test results and user feedback, and maintaining documentation to meet quality, safety, and reliability standards.
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical design skills using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Autodesk Inventor) and experience creating detailed drawings and assemblies for robotic or automation systems.
- Solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including kinematics, dynamics, strength of materials, and mechanism design for robotic arms, grippers, and motion systems.
- Experience with prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical components, including root-cause analysis, design iteration, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, plastics, additive manufacturing) and material selection for durable, cost-effective robotic structures.
- Ability to work hands-on with tools and test equipment in a lab or workshop setting, and to translate practical insights into design improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Effective communication and documentation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams and coordinate with suppliers and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with industry standards and safety practices related to robotics and industrial automation; experience in similar on-site engineering roles in Mumbai or comparable hubs is a plus.
- Demonstrated problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, and willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and methods in robotics design.
