Overview of the Role:
As a Mechanical Engineer – Core Design, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of advanced semiconductor equipment and mechanical subsystems. Your expertise will drive the creation of innovative, reliable mechanical solutions that meet stringent industry standards and support HCL Tech’s reputation for engineering excellence. You will be instrumental in concept development, detailed design, validation, and cross-functional collaboration, directly impacting the delivery of high-performing, precision-engineered products to leading global clients
Detailed Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of mechanical modules, sheet-metal structures, and precision assemblies for semiconductor equipment using UGNX.
- Create detailed 3D models and assemblies, applying DFM/DFA principles and conducting trade-off analyses to optimize manufacturability and performance.
- Apply advanced GD&T (ASME Y14.5) standards, execute 2D/3D tolerance stack-up analyses, and validate critical tolerances for high-precision components.
- Design and develop sheet metal and machined components such as enclosures, brackets, and frames, ensuring adherence to industry design rules and manufacturability requirements.
- Integrate knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes—including vacuum system design, plasma interaction, thermal management, contamination control, and process module interfaces—into design solutions.
- Select materials based on mechanical, thermal, chemical, and vacuum criteria; document selection and perform risk analysis using SOM methodologies.
- Conduct structural and thermal FEA (using ANSYS/Abaqus) to evaluate static/dynamic loads, perform modal studies, and validate heat dissipation.
- Collaborate across functions with electrical, systems, manufacturing, supply chain, and reliability teams to ensure cohesive product development and successful project outcomes.
- Support prototype builds, conduct functional testing, implement engineering change orders (ECOs), and manage design releases through PLM tools such as Teamcenter or Windchill.
- Lead and participate in technical design reviews, troubleshooting, and root-cause analyses to drive continuous product improvement.
Skill Requirements:
- Expert proficiency in UG NX for 3D modeling and assemblies
- In-depth knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up analysis (worst-case/statistical).
- Strong experience in sheet metal design and drafting, including application of design rules and bend allowances.
- Practical understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes and requirements for vacuum and cleanroom applications.
- Advanced skills in structural and thermal FEA (ANSYS/Abaqus).
- Familiarity with DFM/DFA methodologies.
- Competency in PLM tools (Teamcenter/Windchill).
- Experience in material selection and SOM documentation.
Professional Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts clearly.
- Proven ability to lead technical discussions and cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical problem-solving and root-cause analysis abilities.
- Demonstrated mentorship or leadership experience with junior engineers.
Education:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
