About Fairfax Centre for Free EnterpriseFairfax Centre for Free Enterprise is an independent research institution working at the intersection of enterprise and policy reform, built to advance evidence-led ideas for India's long-term economic growth.
Its vision centres on unlocking India's growth potential by championing free enterprise, shaping responsive institutions, and empowering entrepreneurs. The Centre runs two core workstreams: the Enterprise Growth Lab (EGL), which delivers actionable intelligence for MSMEs, and India 2047, an industry-led roadmap for India's economic reform through policy and regulation.
The Centre is chaired by Mr. Amitabh Kant — former CEO of NITI Aayog (2016–2022), former Secretary of the Department for Industrial Policy and Promotion (2014–2016), and India's Ex-G20 Sherpa, known for driving national initiatives such as Startup India, Make in India, and the Aspirational Districts Program. It is led day-to-day by a small bench of senior practitioners, including Ranveer Nagaich (Managing Director), Prateek Goyal (Director, Enterprise Growth Lab), and Diewakarr Anupam Mittal (Director, Partnerships).
About the RoleWe are hiring a Researcher to drive the economic research underpinning the Centre's two flagship workstreams — the Enterprise Growth Lab (delivering actionable intelligence for MSMEs) and India 2047 (India's industry-led reform roadmap). This role combines rigorous empirical research with policy translation, working directly with the Chairperson's Office on issues like cost of capital, industrial competitiveness, logistics, and manufacturing growth.
Key Responsibilities• Design and execute research on India's enterprise ecosystem — cost of capital, electricity, industrial land, logistics, and MSME competitiveness
• Build data-driven frameworks and benchmarking analyses (e.g., cross-country comparisons, sectoral competitiveness indices)
• Draft issue briefs, white papers, and long-form research contributing to the Centre's publications and newsletter
• Support the Enterprise Growth Lab's 180-day MSME intelligence programs with rigorous economic analysis
• Contribute research inputs for the India 2047 reform agenda across policy areas
• Collaborate with government agencies, industry bodies, and academic partners on joint research initiatives
Who We're Looking For• Master's degree in Economics/Public Policy from a top-tier institution (Delhi School of Economics, ISI, JNU, or a leading global program)
• 3–4 years of experience in economic research, public policy, consulting, or a research-focused think tank
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills; comfort with data analysis and applied economic research
• Excellent writing skills — able to translate rigorous research into accessible policy narratives
• Genuine interest in India's growth story, MSME ecosystem, and structural economic reform
