About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Water Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team. The
successful candidate will play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of UK water utility
infrastructure projects, supporting residential, commercial, industrial, and environmental developments.
Please note: This role requires previous experience working on UK water utility projects. Applicants
with experience limited to non-UK water projects will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed water supply and utility designs using AutoCAD.
- Develop water network layouts, pipeline alignments, and associated infrastructure in accordance with UK water industry standards.
- Produce design calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documentation.
- Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimates, design variations, and supporting commercial documentation.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK water authority standards and obtain the necessary technical approvals before construction.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality designs within project deadlines.
- Attend client meetings to present design proposals, discuss progress, and resolve technical queries.
- Communicate engineering concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Review engineering drawings and ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and quality procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience working on UK water utility design projects.
- Proven experience delivering designs for UK water authorities or utility providers.
- Experience in water infrastructure projects for residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- High level of proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Experience using EPANET for hydraulic modelling.
- Strong understanding of UK water design standards, engineering specifications, and approval processes.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and client communication skills.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with UK water companies such as Thames Water, Severn Trent Water, Yorkshire Water, United Utilities, Anglian Water, Southern Water, Wessex Water, Welsh Water, Northumbrian Water, Scottish Water, or similar UK utility providers.
- Knowledge of UK design standards, specifications, and approval procedures.
- Experience with multidisciplinary utility coordination.
