QA Automation Engineer (Playwright)
Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled QA Automation Engineer with strong expertise in Playwright automation to design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable, and maintainable automated test solutions. The ideal candidate should have a solid foundation in automation engineering, experience migrating manual test cases to automation, and the ability to integrate automated testing into modern CI/CD pipelines.
Project Objectives
- Analyze and automate legacy/manual test suites using Playwright.
- Ensure stable and reliable execution of automated tests within CI/CD pipelines.
- Improve regression testing efficiency through Playwright's parallel execution capabilities.
- Maintain high-quality automation frameworks and comprehensive test reporting.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manual to Automation Migration
- Analyze and understand existing manual test cases, including test steps, test data, expected results, and dependencies.
- Identify gaps, ambiguities, and missing scenarios in legacy test suites.
- Convert prioritized manual test cases into robust Playwright automation scripts following established coding standards.
- Rationalize existing test cases by eliminating duplicates, improving clarity, and identifying critical regression coverage.
2. Playwright Automation Development
- Develop and maintain automation frameworks using Playwright with TypeScript
- Implement reliable locator strategies using:
- data-testid
- Role-based selectors
- Stable DOM locators
- Utilize Playwright features such as:
- Auto-waiting
- Assertions
- Trace Viewer
- Screenshots and video recording
- Parallel execution
- Test tagging and sharding
- Network interception
- Handle complex UI scenarios including dynamic elements, iFrames, multiple browser tabs/windows, and file uploads/downloads.
3. API Testing & Data Validation
- Develop and maintain API automation using:
- Playwright API Request Context
- Rest Assured (Java)
- Perform API validation using Postman where required.
- Validate end-to-end business flows across both UI and API layers.
- Perform backend validation using SQL whenever applicable.
4. CI/CD Integration & Reporting
- Integrate automated test execution into CI/CD pipelines using:
- Jenkins
- GitHub Actions
- Azure DevOps
- Maintain and enhance execution reports using:
- Playwright HTML Reports
- Allure Reports
- Extent Reports
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for automation failures and proactively reduce flaky tests through engineering best practices.
5. Delivery & Governance
- Collaborate with technical leads to support:
- Sprint planning and estimation
- Velocity tracking
- Burn-down management
- Change control for expanding automation scope
- Maintain project documentation, including:
- Automation coverage reports
- Known limitations and gaps
- Execution guides and handover documentation
- Traceability between requirements and automated test cases
Required Skills
Playwright (Mandatory)
- Strong hands-on experience with Playwright automation.
- Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript (preferred) or Java.
- Expertise in:
- Stable locator strategies
- Auto-waits
- Assertions
- Responsible use of retries
- Dynamic element handling
- iFrames
- Multiple browser windows/tabs
- File upload/download automation
- Parallel execution
Automation Engineering
- Strong understanding of automation framework design patterns, including:
- Page Object Model (POM)
- Fixtures-based architecture
- Data-driven testing
- Reusable utilities and common libraries
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using:
- Logs
- Trace Viewer
- Screenshots
- Video recordings
Selenium
- Hands-on experience with Selenium WebDriver using Java.
- Experience migrating Selenium-based automation to Playwright is preferred.
API Testing
- Hands-on experience with:
- Rest Assured
- Playwright API
- Postman
- Strong understanding of REST APIs and request/response validation.
CI/CD & DevOps
- Experience with:
- Jenkins
- GitHub Actions
- Azure DevOps
- Understanding of:
- Pipeline execution
- Automated test triggers
- Build artifacts
- Test reporting
Version Control
- Proficiency with Git, including:
- Branching strategies
- Pull Requests
- Code reviews

- Experience in regulated industries such as Healthcare or FinTech
