About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Defect Manager / Lead to drive end-to-end defect governance across multiple Agile delivery teams. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in defect lifecycle management, stakeholder communication, JIRA administration, and quality reporting. This role requires a proactive leader who can effectively manage defect triage, ensure timely resolution of critical issues, and provide actionable insights through dashboards and reporting. The role aligns with Agile delivery practices and requires close collaboration with business, development, testing, and programme stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Defect Management & Governance
- Own and drive the end-to-end defect management process across projects and releases.
- Establish and maintain defect governance frameworks, policies, and best practices.
- Lead defect triage meetings and facilitate resolution discussions with cross-functional teams.
- Monitor defect trends, ageing, leakage, severity distribution, and closure metrics.
- Ensure critical and high-priority defects are addressed within agreed timelines.
- Identify quality risks and escalate issues proactively to stakeholders.
Agile Delivery Support
- Work closely with Agile teams, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Developers, and QA teams.
- Support sprint planning, release planning, and delivery reviews from a quality perspective.
- Ensure defect management activities align with Agile and continuous delivery practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on defect analysis and retrospective findings.
JIRA Administration & Process Management
- Act as the primary owner for JIRA defect workflows and configurations.
- Maintain defect dashboards, filters, reports, and project-level metrics.
- Ensure accurate defect categorisation, prioritisation, and status tracking.
- Drive adoption of standard defect management processes across teams.
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
- Develop and maintain executive-level dashboards and quality reports.
- Present defect metrics, quality trends, risks, and release readiness updates to stakeholders.
- Provide actionable insights using defect analytics and reporting tools.
- Collaborate with leadership teams to establish quality KPIs and success measures.
Communication & Leadership
- Demonstrate strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Confidently communicate quality concerns, risks, and recommendations.
- Influence teams and stakeholders to drive timely resolution of defects.
- Mentor team members on defect management best practices and quality processes.
Required Skills
- 8–10 years of experience in Software Testing, Quality Assurance, or Defect Management.
- Proven experience as a Defect Manager, Test Lead, QA Lead, or Quality Lead.
- Strong experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- Expert knowledge of the Defect Lifecycle Management process
- Advanced experience with JIRA administration, workflows, dashboards, and reporting.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and assertively with business and technical stakeholders.
- Experience in defect triage, release governance, and risk management.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or any related field.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to enterprise-scale programmes and multi-vendor environments.
- Experience with Agile tools such as Confluence and Azure DevOps.
- Knowledge of Quality Metrics, Test Management, and Release Management practices.
- ISTQB certification or equivalent quality-related certification is an added advantage.
