Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Field Operations & Total Station Execution
- Total Station Operations: Set up, calibrate, and operate electronic Total Stations (e.g., Leica, Trimble, Topcon, Sokkia) to measure angles, distances, elevations, and coordinates with high accuracy.
- Site & Boundary Surveys: Execute topographical, boundary, control, hydrographic, and route/alignment surveys as required by project specifications.
- Construction Staking / Layout: Perform structural and site layout staking for roads, buildings, utilities, drainage, and foundation works using Total Station data.
- Control Networks: Establish primary and secondary survey control points, benchmarks, and grid systems using traversing and trigonometric leveling methods.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper routine maintenance, field adjustments, and calibration checks for Total Stations, prisms, tribrachs, and auxiliary survey instruments.
- Data Processing & Technical Deliverables
- Data Extraction & Reduction: Transfer raw data files from Total Station data collectors to office computers; process, analyze, and verify survey measurements.
- CAD Integration: Draft survey maps, contour lines, cross-sections, profiles, and site plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation.
- Quality Assurance: Reconcile field measurements against design plans and historical deeds; perform traverse adjustments and error corrections.
- Documentation: Prepare comprehensive field notes, survey sketches, technical reports, and legal description drafts for project teams and stakeholders.
- Safety & Coordination
- Site Coordination: Collaborate with civil engineers, architects, project managers, construction crews, and local authorities.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety guidelines on site, including OSHA standards, PPE requirements, and local land surveying regulations.
Job Expectations
Qualifications & Skill Requirements:
- Licensing: Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) certification is preferred (or country/state equivalent).
- Total Station Proficiency: Advanced, hands-on operational skill with modern robotic and manual Total Stations, including data collector software (e.g., Leica Captivate, Trimble Access, Topcon MAGNET Field).
- Software Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center (TBC), Leica Geo Office, or equivalent processing software.
- GPS/GNSS Integration: Working knowledge of RTK GNSS/GPS receivers and static survey methods to complement Total Station workflows.
- Mathematical Skills: Strong command of trigonometry, geometry, coordinate geometry (COGO), and spatial calculations.
Minimum Qualification
Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Surveying, or Land Information Systems.
Minimum Job Experience
Experience: 3–5+ years of practical field experience as a Land Surveyor, with a heavy emphasis on Total Station operations.
