Employment Basis
Project-based, full-time, through the construction and commissioning phase to handover.
1. Role Purpose
The Site / Construction Manager is responsible for the safe, on-time and high-quality installation and construction of the furnace package at the Ma’aden project site in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia — and, critically, for the construction planning that comes before site work begins.
The role is deliberately engaged early. Well ahead of mobilisation, the Site / Construction Manager develops the construction pre-planning deliverables that the client and EPCM need aligned — installation plans and manuals, lifting plans, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), and laydown / site logistics sizing. Securing client and EPCM agreement on these up front de-risks the build and avoids costly rework of the installation approach later.
The role then transitions to the project site for the traditional construction management role: leading installation supervision, coordinating subcontractors, managing the multi-contractor site interfaces, driving the works through mechanical completion into commissioning, and owning site HSE and quality on the ground — all while protecting the schedule and G&P’s reputation on a high-visibility KSA project.
2. Key Responsibilities
2.1 Phase 1 — Construction Pre-Planning (Early Engagement)
• Installation planning: develop the installation plans and installation manuals / method of installation for the furnace package, for issue to the client and EPCM for review and approval.
• Lifting plans: prepare lifting plans and rigging studies for major and heavy / out-of-gauge items (e.g. furnace shells and large assemblies), including crane selection and lift sequencing.
• RAMS: produce risk assessments and method statements for site activities to the standard the client and EPCM require, securing alignment before works begin.
• Laydown & site logistics sizing: size and plan laydown areas, access routes, storage and site logistics, coordinated with the EPCM site plan.
• Constructability input: feed practical construction and installation experience back into design and engineering to remove buildability problems before they reach site.
• Client / EPCM alignment: present and agree the above with the client and EPCM, and build the relationships that will make the site phase run smoothly.
2.2 Phase 2 — Site & Construction Management
• Site mobilisation & establishment: mobilise the supervision team, establish the site presence, tools and facilities, and integrate with the client / EPCM site systems.
• Installation supervision: lead G&P’s installation supervision; ensure work is executed to the approved installation procedures, drawings, ITPs and HSE requirements; honour hold points.
• Subcontractor management: coordinate and supervise the installation subcontractor(s), monitor productivity and quality, and drive the works to programme.
• Multi-contractor interfaces: manage the interfaces with other site contractors and the EPCM (shared access, cranage, sequencing) and resolve conflicts through the agreed route.
• Site readiness: verify civils, foundations, utilities and access are ready ahead of each delivery and installation activity; run joint readiness checks with the client / EPCM.
• Progress & reporting: drive and report site progress against the schedule, feed the site look-aheads, and escalate emerging delays early.
• Mechanical completion & handover: drive the works through mechanical completion into commissioning, manage the punch-list, and support performance testing, mechanical and industrial completion and handover.
2.3 HSE, Quality & Compliance on Site
• Site HSE leadership: own construction HSE on the ground — set the safety standard, enforce the permit-to-work system, and integrate with the client / EPCM HSE regime; high-risk activities include lifting, working at height, hot work and confined-space entry.
• Quality on site: ensure installation quality is verified and documented; interface with the quality function on inspections and records.
• Hot-climate working: plan and manage for KSA conditions — summer heat, heat-stress management and sandstorm-season disruption.
• Permits & regulations: ensure site works comply with the client’s and local KSA requirements, permits and regulations.
3. Experience & Qualifications
3.1 Essential
• Substantial experience as a Site Manager / Construction Manager on heavy industrial, EPC or capital-equipment projects — ideally furnace, smelter, metals, process or similar plant.
• Proven track record of producing construction pre-planning deliverables — installation plans/manuals, lifting plans, RAMS and laydown / site logistics planning.
• Strong hands-on installation, mechanical erection and commissioning-interface experience.
• Demonstrable leadership of installation supervision teams and subcontractors on site.
• Sound knowledge of lifting operations, working at height, hot work and permit-to-work systems, with a strong personal HSE ethic.
• Experience managing multi-contractor site interfaces and client / EPCM relationships.
• Fluent written and spoken English; confident reporting to client and management.
• Willing and able to mobilise to, and be resident on, the project site in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
3.2 Desirable
• Direct experience of working on sites in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or the wider Middle East / GCC.
• Experience of furnace / refractory installation and first-heat / hot commissioning support.
• Recognised construction / project management and HSE qualifications (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, or regional equivalents).
• Familiarity with completion / handover systems (mechanical completion, punch-listing, RFC/RFO-type processes).
4. Key Competencies

5. Working Arrangements
Phase 1 — Planning
Based at the G&P India office, developing the construction pre-planning deliverables and securing client / EPCM alignment ahead of site.
Phase 2 — Site (KSA)
Resident at the project site, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on a rotational or single-status basis (to be confirmed), through installation and commissioning.
Visa / Iqama
Sponsorship / Iqama for KSA arranged by the Company. Candidate must be willing and able to mobilise to site; visa lead times to be planned well in advance of mobilisation.
6. Key Performance Indicators
• Construction pre-planning deliverables (install plans/manuals, lifting plans, RAMS, laydown) approved by client / EPCM ahead of site.
• Zero serious HSE incidents; a visibly safe and compliant site.
• Installation completed to programme and to quality, driven through mechanical completion.
• Multi-contractor interfaces managed without avoidable delay or dispute.
• Punch-list closed out and handover / completion milestones achieved.
