About us:
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, set up in 1958 as the second IIT, is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field of science and engineering education and research. The Institute was granted the status of 'Institution of Eminence' by the Ministry of Education (the then Ministry of Human Resources Development) on July 9, 2018.
IIT Bombay is reputed for the quality of its faculty, cutting-edge research, industry relations, and the outstanding caliber of students graduating from its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The Institute has 17 academic departments, 64 other academic entities (Centres/ Programmes/ Academic facilities/ Hubs/ Externally funded centres and Labs), and three schools.
Over the last six decades, more than 75,000 engineers and scientists have graduated from the Institute. It is served by 756 faculty members, with 121 women faculty, and about 150 visiting and part-time faculty, considered not only amongst the best within the country but also highly recognised in the world for achievements in the field of education and research. On June 19, 2025, IIT Bombay was ranked 2nd in India and 129th in the world in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings for 2026.
The Development and Relations Foundation (DRF), established as a Section 8 not-for-profit entity under the Dean Alumni & Corporate Relations (ACR) office, serves as a strategic arm dedicated to advancing IIT Bombays vision of global leadership. DRF plays a pivotal role in fostering meaningful, long-term partnerships with alumni, corporations, and philanthropic foundations transforming goodwill into sustained philanthropic support It empowers the Dean ACRs mission by driving fundraising initiatives, stewarding donor relationships, and ensuring transparency in managing philanthropic contributions.
From personalized donor engagement to overseeing financial accountability and impact reporting, DRF ensures that every philanthropic effort translates into lasting progress for the Institutes academic, research, and infrastructure growth.
Job Purpose:
Lead IITB-DRF's alumni fundraising strategy by building meaningful, long-term relationships with IIT Bombay alumni and inspiring philanthropic support for the Institute's strategic priorities.
The role will be responsible for developing a robust alumni fundraising ecosystem encompassing prospect research, strategic outreach, donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. In addition to growing alumni participation in giving, the incumbent will personally lead engagement with IIT Bombay's most strategic and high-impact alumni donors, cultivating transformational philanthropic partnerships that advance the Institute's mission in education, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and societal impact.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the Senior Vice President will also play a key role in strengthening organizational capability, building a high-performing fundraising function, and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and execution excellence across IITB-DRF.
Key responsibilities:
Fundraising Strategy & Portfolio Development
- Develop and execute IITB-DRF's alumni fundraising strategy, aligning philanthropic priorities with IIT Bombay's institutional vision and long-term advancement goals.
- Build and lead a robust alumni fundraising ecosystem encompassing prospect research, donor intelligence, portfolio management, engagement, stewardship, governance, and performance management.
- Lead the identification, qualification, and prioritization of high-potential alumni-including distinguished alumni, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and global alumni-to build a strong pipeline of transformational giving opportunities.
- Leverage alumni intelligence, giving trends, market insights, and analytics to shape fundraising strategies, optimize donor portfolios, and drive informed decision-making.
- Collaborate with the Dean, CEO, faculty, and Institute leadership to translate institutional priorities into compelling philanthropic opportunities aligned with alumni interests.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing fundraising team while establishing scalable processes, governance frameworks, portfolio reviews, and performance metrics that drive execution excellence.
- Champion innovation and global best practices in alumni philanthropy and institutional advancement to strengthen IIT Bombay's fundraising capability and long-term organizational growth.
Alumni Outreach & Transformational Giving
- Build trusted, long-term relationships with IIT Bombay alumni across India and globally, positioning the Institute as a preferred philanthropic partner.
- Personally manage a portfolio of IIT Bombay's most strategic alumni donors and prospective philanthropists, leading their cultivation from engagement through transformational giving.
- Lead the cultivation, solicitation, negotiation, and successful closure of transformational philanthropic gifts that advance IIT Bombay's strategic priorities.
- Collaborate closely with the Dean, CEO, faculty, Institute leadership, and senior volunteers to develop and execute tailored engagement and solicitation strategies for priority donors.
- Represent IIT Bombay and IITB-DRF at alumni engagements, donor meetings, leadership forums, and strategic events across India and internationally.
- Expand alumni participation in philanthropy while growing the pipeline of leadership donors and transformational giving opportunities.
Alumni Stewardship & Donor Experience
- Develop and lead a comprehensive stewardship strategy that strengthens lifelong relationships with alumni donors and reinforces a culture of philanthropy.
- Deliver an exceptional donor experience through meaningful engagement, timely impact reporting, personalized communication, and donor recognition.
- Collaborate with Institute stakeholders to showcase the impact of philanthropy through compelling stories, reports, events, and immersive donor experiences.
- Strengthen donor retention, repeat giving, and long-term alumni engagement through thoughtful stewardship and relationship management.
- Monitor donor engagement, stewardship effectiveness, and fundraising outcomes to continuously enhance donor satisfaction and long-term philanthropic partnerships.
Desired Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree from a premier institution; Engineering or Science background preferred.
• MBA or postgraduate qualification from a reputed institution is desirable.
Experience
• 15–20 years of leadership experience in major gifts fundraising, strategic relationship management, wealth advisory, philanthropy, institutional advancement, or consultative sales.
• Proven track record of managing and closing high-value, relationship-driven engagements with UHNIs, family offices, foundations, or corporate leaders.
• Experience working with senior leadership, Boards, or C-suite stakeholders.
• Exposure to higher education, research institutions, philanthropy, or the social sector will be an advantage.
