Senior Research Analyst- International Trade & Investment
About the Role:
As part of T&A Consulting's Trade & Investment Advisory team, you will support international market entry projects by conducting in-depth research across global markets and developing actionable insights. The role will also involve working on trade documentation, Free Trade Agreement (FTA) frameworks, logistics assessments, and sector-specific opportunity analyses to support strategic decision-making for businesses entering new markets.

Key Responsibilities:
- Trade Research & Policy Analysis/Trade Intelligence
- Conduct comprehensive research on global trade policies, regional trade agreements, and tariff frameworks to support client projects related to international market expansion.
- Evaluate and monitor developments in Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAs), and Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) across key markets and industries.
- Track updates from international and national trade bodies, including WTO, UNCTAD, DGFT, and other regulatory authorities, and convert these insights into practical recommendations for clients.
- Develop high-quality trade intelligence reports, policy notes, market assessments, and impact analyses to support strategic decision-making for corporate and government stakeholders.
- Support FTA advisory mandates covering agreements- including tariff concession analysis, Rules of Origin roadmaps, and sector-specific NTB assessments.
2.Data Analytics & Quantitative Research
- Analyze trade flow data using sources such as UN Comtrade, WITS, ITC Trade Map, and RBI/DGCIS datasets to identify export-import trends and market opportunities.
- Build and maintain analytical models for trade diagnostics, market sizing, and economic impact evaluation using Excel , and/or statistical tools.
- Synthesize large datasets into structured, presentation-ready outputs with clear analytical narratives.
3. International Trade Promotion Projects
- Support T&A's project work on trade & export promotion strategies and investment corridor development projects.
- Contribute to stakeholder engagement materials, concept notes, and project proposals for institutional clients, including investment promotion agencies and trade bodies.
- Assist in coordinating with international partners and client teams across time zones for project delivery.
- Support bilateral trade promotion programmes for diplomatic missions and government clients including trade promotion organisations, embassies, and investment promotion agencies.
- Assist in organising and supporting bilateral industry events, sectoral webinars, and trade missions connecting Indian industry with international counterparts.
4.Trade Documentation & Project Support
- Draft, review, and structure trade-related documents including HS code analyses, Rules of Origin (RoO) interpretations, NTB assessments, and country-specific trade compliance notes.
- Assist in preparing client deliverables such as market entry reports, sector opportunity assessments, and investment promotion collateral.
- Coordinate input across internal practice groups and contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams working on international business development mandates.
- Support SCOMET and dual-use product classification advisory for clients importing / exporting controlled goods.
- Assist with customs duty optimisation analyses including Advance Authorisation Scheme, IGST refund mechanisms, and preferential duty calculations under FTAs.
5. Client Relationship Management & Business Development
- Build and maintain working relationships with existing clients including economic development organisations, diplomatic trade missions, and trade promotion agencies - ensuring consistent communication, timely delivery, and high client satisfaction.
- Contribute to new business development by supporting the preparation of concept notes, capability statements, and tailored proposals for prospective clients across T&A’s EDO and trade promotion verticals.
- Identify opportunities to deepen existing client relationships and flag potential new mandates or account growth opportunities to senior team members.
- Support the business development team in identifying and pursuing new client mandates across FTA advisory, trade facilitation, bilateral trade promotion, and market entry consulting - contributing to pitch materials, capability presentations, and sector-specific proposals for prospective government, diplomatic, and corporate clients.
- Assist in mapping and qualifying prospective clients across Economic Development Organisations (EDOs), trade promotion agencies, diplomatic missions, and industry bodies - supporting outreach campaigns and helping convert new business opportunities into active engagements.
Education:
MBA / PG Diploma in International Business, International Trade, or Economics - preferably from IIFT, or equivalent institutions.
Experience:
- 1–3 years in trade research, market entry consulting, export-import advisory, trade documentation, or a related commercial consulting environment. Fresh MBA graduates from IIFT or equivalent institutions with strong internship or project experience in trade research or consulting will also be considered.
- Prior exposure to FTA analysis, trade documentation, or international trade development initiatives is strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills; ability to draw insights from complex trade datasets.
- Proficiency with trade data platforms -UN Comtrade, ITC Trade Map, WITS, or equivalent.
- Excellent written communication skills; ability to produce well-structured, client-ready reports and briefs.
- Solid understanding of FTA frameworks, tariff structures, HS codes, and international trade compliance basics
- Ability to manage multiple client deliverables simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and client communication skills - comfortable engaging with government officials, diplomatic counterparts, and senior industry stakeholders.
- Exposure to or interest in bilateral trade diplomacy, investment promotion, or economic development advisory is an advantage.
