Company Description:
Copperhead is building an open-source AI engineering platform for electronics design.
Our AI agent designs, documents, simulates and verifies printed circuit boards, taking hardware projects from written requirements to manufacturable designs. We are building toward a future where hardware development is as fast and iterative as software development, combining AI-driven engineering with deterministic simulation, verification and manufacturing workflows.
Role Description:
- We are looking for a Senior AI PCB Design Engineer to join our team full-time in Bengaluru.
- You will own complex hardware projects from requirements and system architecture through schematic design, PCB layout, simulation, fabrication, board bring-up and validation.
- You will work across high-speed digital, RF, mixed-signal, power electronics and embedded systems, designing production-grade hardware in KiCad and using Copperhead throughout the engineering workflow.
- A major part of this role is bringing deep electronics and PCB domain knowledge into our AI workflows. You will help us encode how experienced hardware engineers reason about architecture, component selection, constraints, simulation, verification and manufacturability so Copperhead can make better engineering decisions.
- This is a hands-on senior engineering role for someone who has shipped complex hardware and wants to help build the next generation of electronic design automation.
Responsibilities:
- Own complex PCB projects end to end, from requirements and architecture through schematic, layout, fabrication, bring-up and validation.
- Design high-speed digital, RF, mixed-signal, power and embedded hardware in KiCad.
- Define stack-ups, impedance, routing, signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC and manufacturability constraints.
- Perform simulation, ERC/DRC, DFM/DFT and design reviews.
- Prepare BOMs, fabrication, assembly and production documentation.
- Work directly with customers to translate product requirements into production-ready hardware.
- Bring deep PCB and electronics domain expertise into Copperhead's AI design and verification workflows.
- Turn engineering knowledge, design rules and real-world failure modes into test cases, benchmarks and automated verification systems.
- Work closely with software and AI engineers to improve schematic generation, placement, routing, simulation and verification.
- Lead debugging, design revisions and prototype validation through production readiness.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional PCB, electronics or hardware engineering experience.
- Advanced, production-level KiCad experience.
- Experience taking complex multilayer boards through fabrication, assembly, bring-up and validation.
- Strong experience in one or more of high-speed digital, RF, mixed-signal, power electronics, signal integrity or power integrity.
- Experience with controlled-impedance routing, differential pairs and high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, USB, DDR, MIPI or Ethernet.
- Strong understanding of power architecture, EMI/EMC, DFM/DFT and production design.
- Hands-on hardware debugging experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers or VNAs.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot complex hardware and own engineering outcomes.
- Strong technical communication and documentation skills.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Experience:
- SoM carrier boards, embedded computing platforms or custom processor boards.
- High-density 6 to 12+ layer boards, HDI, microvias or fine-pitch BGAs.
- RF front ends, antenna matching, filters or wireless hardware.
- Mixed-signal systems with ADCs, DACs, analog front ends or precision sensing.
- Power electronics, battery systems, motor drives or high-current designs.
- SPICE, RF/EM simulation, SI/PI analysis or automated hardware verification.
- FPGA, embedded Linux or complex SoC-based systems.
- Hardware for robotics, drones, industrial, automotive, medical or communications products.
- Experience with Altium Designer or Cadence Allegro in addition to KiCad.
- Experience with EDA automation, open-source hardware or AI-assisted engineering workflows.
Why Join Copperhead?
- You will work at the intersection of AI, electronics engineering and open-source software.
- You will design real hardware while helping build the tools that could fundamentally change how electronics are designed.
- Your engineering experience will directly influence how Copperhead's AI understands hardware, makes design decisions and verifies whether a board is actually ready to build.
