Role Description The Senior AI Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and deploying AI and machine learning solutions that power the Superfan.ng learning experience. This full-time remote role includes developing and optimizing models for pattern recognition, personalization, and content understanding, especially focused on African languages and cultural data. Day-to-day work will involve collaborating with product, engineering, and content teams to translate learning and engagement goals into robust AI features, such as recommendation systems, adaptive quizzes, and intelligent feedback. The Senior AI Engineer will also implement scalable software components, maintain model performance in production, and ensure responsible use of data and AI techniques. This role is expected to contribute to technical strategy, mentor team members, and help establish best practices for AI development within the organization.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Computer Science and Software Development, including algorithms, data structures, and production-grade systems.
- Expertise in Neural Networks and Pattern Recognition, with experience training, evaluating, and deploying modern ML models.
- Hands-on experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP), ideally including multilingual or low-resource languages.
- Proficiency with common AI/ML tools and frameworks (e.g., Python, PyTorch or TensorFlow, modern NLP libraries, cloud-based ML services).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience building and maintaining AI systems in production, including monitoring, retraining, and model lifecycle management.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting, communicate clearly across disciplines, and collaborate in a diverse, distributed team.
- Interest in African languages and cultures; experience with edtech, language learning, or recommendation systems is a plus.
