Job Summary
The SCM Commercial professional will be responsible for managing domestic and international procurement, commercial operations, import/export documentation, customs clearance, freight coordination, vendor management, and logistics compliance. The role ensures seamless movement of materials while optimizing cost, delivery, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Import & Export Operations
- Coordinate import and export shipments from order placement through final delivery.
- Ensure compliance with customs regulations and international trade requirements.
- Review and verify shipping documents before dispatch and customs clearance.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, airlines, transporters, and customs authorities.
- Track shipments and proactively resolve delays, shortages, or documentation issues.
Customs & CHA Coordination
- Coordinate with Customs House Agents (CHA) for customs clearance activities.
- Ensure timely filing of Bills of Entry, Shipping Bills, and customs documentation.
- Monitor customs duty payments, exemptions, and applicable trade benefits.
- Resolve customs queries and ensure compliance with import/export regulations.
- Maintain records required for customs audits and statutory compliance.
International Trade & Incoterms
- Apply appropriate Incoterms (EXW, FCA, FOB, CFR, CIF, CPT, CIP, DAP, DPU, DDP, etc.) based on commercial agreements.
- Understand transfer of risk, cost responsibilities, insurance requirements, and delivery obligations under each Incoterm.
- Advise internal stakeholders on the commercial and logistics implications of different Incoterms.
Shipping Documentation
- Review, prepare, and validate international shipping documents, including:
- Commercial Invoice
- Packing List
- Bill of Lading (B/L)
- Air Waybill (AWB)
- Certificate of Origin (COO)
- Insurance Certificate
- Bill of Entry
- Shipping Bill
- Delivery Order
- Letter of Credit (LC) documentation
- Bank negotiation documents
- Inspection Certificates (where applicable)
HS Code (Adicode) Classification
- Classify products using the correct Harmonized System (HS) Code (also referred to internally in some organizations as Adicode).
- Ensure accurate duty calculation, customs classification, and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate with customs brokers and regulatory authorities for classification-related matters.
- Maintain a master database of product classifications and applicable duties.
Logistics & Freight Management
- Coordinate with freight forwarders for air, sea, rail, and road shipments.
- Monitor freight costs and negotiate competitive transportation rates.
- Optimize shipment consolidation, routing, and transit times.
- Manage insurance claims related to transit loss or damage.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with DGFT, Customs, GST, FEMA, and applicable international trade regulations.
- Maintain complete records for audits and statutory requirements.
- Support internal and external compliance audits.
Reporting & Analytics
- Prepare procurement and logistics MIS reports.
- Track KPIs including:
- On-time delivery
- Customs clearance turnaround time
- Freight cost
- Procurement savings
- Supplier performance
- Inventory availability
- Import/export lead time
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Commerce, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- MBA/PGDM in Supply Chain, Operations, or International Business is preferred.
Experience
- 5–12 years of experience in SCM Commercial, Procurement, Import/Export, Logistics, or International Trade.
- Experience handling international suppliers and customs processes is preferred.
