Job Description – Quality Control Engineer / Inspector (Fabrication Industry)
Position: Quality Control Engineer / Quality Inspector
Location: At our Dehugaon Plant
Department: Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC)
Industry: Structural Steel Fabrication / Heavy Engineering Fabrication
Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Quality Control Engineer/Inspector to ensure that all fabrication activities are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, customer specifications, applicable codes, and quality standards. The candidate will be responsible for inspection of raw materials, fabrication processes, welding activities, dimensional checks, and preparation of quality documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Incoming Material Inspection
Verify raw materials against Purchase Orders, Material Test Certificates (MTCs), and approved specifications.
Conduct identification, traceability, and visual inspection of incoming materials.
Maintain material inspection records.
Fabrication & Welding Inspection
Monitor fabrication activities including cutting, fit-up, assembly, welding, and finishing operations.
Verify dimensions and tolerances as per approved drawings.
Ensure compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and welding standards.
Monitor welder qualifications and welding consumable control.
Quality Documentation
Prepare and maintain Inspection Reports, Quality Dossiers, and Manufacturing Record Books (MRBs).
Maintain traceability records for materials and fabricated components.
Coordinate with customers, third-party inspection agencies, and consultants during inspections.
Testing & Inspection
Conduct visual inspection of welds and fabricated structures.
Coordinate NDT activities such as UT, RT, PT, and MT.
Verify blasting, painting, and coating inspections as per specifications.
Ensure calibration status of measuring and testing instruments.
Non-Conformance & Corrective Actions
Identify quality deviations and raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
Follow up on corrective and preventive actions.
Assist production teams in resolving quality-related issues.
Qualification
Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or equivalent.
Additional certifications in Welding Inspection, NDT, or Quality Management will be preferred.
Experience
5–8 years of experience in fabrication, structural steel, pressure parts, boilers, tanks, piping, or heavy engineering industries.
Experience in customer and third-party inspections preferred.
Required Skills
Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications.
Knowledge of welding processes, inspection techniques, and quality standards.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
Proficiency in measuring instruments such as Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauges, and Measuring Tapes.
Good documentation and reporting skills.
Knowledge of MS Office applications.
Preferred Knowledge
IS, ASME, AWS, and relevant fabrication standards.
NDT methods and reporting.
Blasting and painting inspection requirements.
Material traceability and quality dossier preparation.
