Company Description Chowgule Lavgan Shiprepair Pvt Ltd operates an ultra-modern shipyard on the west coast of India, strategically located about 70 nautical miles from Bombay High. The company is part of the Chowgule Group, a century-old enterprise with a strong presence in commercial shipbuilding and shiprepair. At Lavgan, the shipyard focuses on commercial vessels, defense ship repairs for Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy ships, rig repairs, and EPC construction projects. The facility offers comprehensive dry docking, refit, conversion, fabrication, and load-out services, providing procurement professionals exposure to complex maritime and defense projects.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Procurement role based at the shipyard in Ratnagiri. The procurement professional will manage end-to-end purchasing activities for shipbuilding, shiprepair, and associated marine and industrial projects, including preparing and processing purchase requisitions and purchase orders for materials, equipment, and services. The role involves identifying and evaluating suppliers, requesting and analyzing quotations, negotiating commercial terms, and ensuring timely delivery aligned with project schedules. The professional will monitor supplier performance, coordinate with engineering, production, and finance teams, maintain accurate procurement records, and support cost optimization and compliance with company policies. The position also requires ongoing market research for marine and industrial supplies, maintaining inventory replenishment levels, and contributing to continuous improvement of procurement processes.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Procurement and Purchase Orders skills, including experience in end-to-end purchasing cycles.
- Candidates should possess Supplier Evaluation and Analytical Skills to assess vendor capabilities, quality, cost, and delivery performance.
- Candidates should possess Contract Negotiation skills, including the ability to negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions in line with organizational standards.
- Relevant experience in shipyard, shipbuilding, shiprepair, marine engineering, or heavy industrial projects is highly beneficial.
- Strong knowledge of procurement best practices, vendor management, and basic commercial and contractual concepts is preferred.
- Effective communication, collaboration, and documentation skills, with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams on-site.
- Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with ERP or procurement software systems; ability to work with data and reports.
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Commerce, or a related field is preferred; relevant professional certifications in procurement or supply chain are an advantage.
