Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Plant Head to lead end-to-end plant operations for an Automotive / Auto Components manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in Hot Forging / Warm Forging, machining operations, production management, plant financials, customer management, and cross-functional operations.
Hot Forging / Warm Forging industry experience is MANDATORY.
The candidate will be responsible for driving production, productivity, quality, cost optimization, operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and overall plant profitability while managing a large workforce and multiple manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plant Operations & Production
- Lead and manage end-to-end plant operations with responsibility for production output, productivity, quality, cost, delivery and safety.
- Manage a large-scale manufacturing facility with 300+ machines and 600+ employees.
- Drive production planning, capacity utilization, OEE, productivity improvement and operational efficiency.
- Ensure smooth coordination between Production, Maintenance, Quality, Stores, Purchase and Sub-Contract functions.
- Take ownership of plant production numbers and operational KPIs.
2. Machining Operations
- Strong hands-on experience in CNC Turning, VMC, HMC, Grinding and Broaching operations.
- Should have sound knowledge of CNC programming, tool selection, process optimization and troubleshooting.
- Drive improvements in machining productivity, cycle time, tool life, rejection and machine utilization.
- Manage troubleshooting and resolution of critical manufacturing issues.
3. Forging Operations – Mandatory
- Mandatory experience in Hot Forging / Warm Forging industry.
- Strong understanding of Hot Forging, Warm Forging, Cold Forging and Coining processes.
- Should have practical knowledge of forging dies, tooling, process parameters and troubleshooting.
- Experience in managing forging operations and improving productivity, quality and process stability.
- Ability to identify and resolve die/process-related issues.
4. People & Plant Management
- Lead and manage 600+ employees/workforce across plant operations.
- Strong direct manpower interaction and workforce management capabilities.
- Develop a performance-driven culture focused on productivity, quality, safety and continuous improvement.
- Drive manpower optimization, skill development and employee engagement.
5. P&L and Financial Management
- Responsible for plant-level P&L and financial performance.
- Strong understanding of plant financials and cost drivers.
- Identify opportunities to improve P&L through productivity improvement, cost reduction, waste elimination and process optimization.
- Demonstrated ability to move financial performance from the current state to an improved state through structured improvement initiatives.
6. Customer & OEM Management
- Manage domestic and export OEM customers.
- Ensure timely supply and adherence to customer quality and delivery requirements.
- Handle customer complaints, escalations and issue resolution.
- Maintain strong relationships with key OEM customers and internal stakeholders.
7. Budgeting & Costing
- Lead annual plant budget preparation and monitor performance against budget.
- Prepare and present budgets and financial plans to senior management.
- Strong knowledge of costing and costing-sheet breakup.
- Understand manufacturing cost elements and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
8. MIS & Management Reporting
- Prepare and present plant performance reports, operational dashboards and MIS to senior management.
- Strong proficiency in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Present production, quality, cost, manpower, customer and financial performance to senior leadership.
9. Cross-Functional Department Management
The Plant Head will work closely with and oversee coordination across:
- Production
- Maintenance
- Quality
- Stores
- Purchase
- Sub-Contract
- Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering
- Customer / OEM teams
- Finance
