Key Responsibilities:
Protocol Development & Delivery
- Design, develop, test, and deploy Pipeline Pilot protocols for OneLab and Grid ELN integrations end-to-end
- Build integration protocols connecting lab instruments, Oracle databases (ODBC/JDBC), and REST/SOAP APIs with OneLab and Grid ELN
- Develop reusable subprotocols, templates, and modular components to standardise development across the team
- Implement PilotScript-based business logic for data transformation, validation, conditional routing, and report generation
- Deliver against the Q3 2026 protocol development pipeline alongside the in-house team
Technical Mentoring & Knowledge Sharing
- Act as the go-to technical expert for Pipeline Pilot within the team — resolving doubts, reviewing code, and guiding best practices
- Support the in-house team during BIOVIA training and vendor KT phases by providing practical, real-world context
- Conduct code walkthroughs and pair-development sessions to accelerate team learning
- Establish coding standards, naming conventions, and documentation practices for the protocol estate
Operations, Quality & Compliance
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues with existing protocols, including root cause analysis and performance optimisation
- Ensure all development follows GxP validation standards (ALCOA+, IQ/OQ/PQ) and AstraZeneca quality practices
- Maintain comprehensive documentation: protocol design documents, runbooks, known-issue registers, and deployment records
- Collaborate with QC and PT&D business stakeholders to translate functional requirements into protocol specifications.

What We Expect
Pipeline Pilot Protocol Development
End-to-end design, build, test, and deployment of protocols. Confident working with the Protocol Designer, component palette, and execution model.
PilotScript
Strong proficiency: variables, expressions, conditional logic, functions, string processing with regular expressions, date/time calculations, property manipulation, arrays, hash tables, and script debugging.
Data Handling & Transformation
Reading/writing CSV, Excel, and database sources. Data transformation, filtering, sorting, merge/join/group operations. Efficient processing of large datasets.
Database Connectivity
ODBC/JDBC integration (Oracle preferred). Connection pooling configuration. Embedding SQL queries within protocols and handling result sets.
REST & SOAP API Integration
Calling external web services from protocols. Parsing JSON/XML responses. Command line integration and multi-pipeline data exchange (global variables, cache, file-based).
Subprotocols & Modular Design
Creating reusable subprotocols with exposed parameters. Run-to-completion behaviour. Template design, component packaging, and sharing across teams.
Debugging & Performance Optimisation
Troubleshooting using checkpoints, design mode, and execution logs. Root cause analysis. Protocol versioning, comparison, and rollback. Memory and performance optimisation.
Deployment & Scheduling
Production deployment procedures. Web port and command line execution. Job scheduling, batch processing, notifications. Version control and role-based access management.
