Role Description The Pathology Medical Coder is a full-time, on-site role based in Hyderabad. The position involves reviewing pathology reports and related clinical documentation to assign accurate ICD and CPT codes in accordance with payer guidelines, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards. Daily responsibilities include validating documentation for medical necessity, ensuring coding accuracy and completeness, and working closely with billing and RCM teams to reduce denials and optimize reimbursement. The coder will monitor coding updates and compliance rules, support internal audits and quality checks, and contribute to training initiatives by sharing coding best practices and regulatory changes with colleagues.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of pathology-specific medical coding, including ICD and CPT coding guidelines, with experience interpreting laboratory and pathology reports.
- Familiarity with revenue cycle management processes, including billing, accounts receivable, and denial management within a healthcare setting.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing clinical documentation, with the ability to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance with regulatory and payer requirements.
- Proficiency in using medical coding software, electronic health records (EHR), and other health information management tools.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with clinicians, billing teams, and other stakeholders, and to clarify documentation as needed.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, on-site environment in Hyderabad, manage workload priorities, and meet productivity and quality targets.
- Relevant certification such as CPC, CCS, or equivalent in medical coding; specialized training in pathology coding is an advantage.
- Prior experience in pathology or laboratory medical coding is preferred; exposure to U.S. healthcare RCM processes is beneficial.
- Diploma or degree in a healthcare-related field (e.g., Medical Coding, Health Information Management, Life Sciences, or similar) is desirable.
