Role Overview
Patent Associates are unique professionals who combine in-depth knowledge of a technical
domain with a strong understanding of intellectual property (IP) laws. We are looking for
confident team players with strong technical, analytical, and communication skills who can
effectively manage multiple tasks, prioritize their workload, and meet strict deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of a Patent Associate will include:
- Conducting patent and non-patent literature searches, including prior-art, freedom-to-
operate (FTO), invalidation, and other relevant searches.
- Providing insightful analysis of search results from various sources by preparing and
delivering timely, value-added patent search reports in accordance with established in-
house patent search protocols.
- Drafting provisional and complete specifications for patent applications.
- Responding to examination reports and office actions by providing technical arguments,
both written and verbal, and attending hearings before the Indian Patent Office, where
applicable.
- Assisting with patent oppositions and providing technical support to the litigation team
through research and analysis of recent cases and relevant legal developments.
- Other Responsibilities
- Attending IPR conferences in India and abroad and effectively representing the Firm.
- Conducting seminars, workshops, and orientation programs to generate interest in the
Firm and promote IP awareness.
- Contributing articles on behalf of the Firm for publication in relevant journals and
magazines.
- Participating in and subsequently conducting internal knowledge- and resource-sharing
sessions.
- Contributing to the Firm’s newsletter.
- Assisting in tracking and meeting deadlines set by Senior Management.
- Utilizing and regularly updating information in the Firm’s IP Management System.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Postgraduate degree in Chemical Engineering with a strong academic record.
- In-depth knowledge of IPR or at least two years of relevant experience in the IPR field.
- Preference will be given to candidates who are registered patent agents.
- 1–2 years of relevant experience in IPR for the Patent Associate/Patent Analyst position.
- Proficiency in MS Office and relevant technical drawing packages.
- Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.
- Candidates, whether Indian or foreign, with excellent domain knowledge and strong
English language skills, but with little or no prior patent experience, are also encouraged
to apply if they have a genuine interest in building a career in IPR. The Firm is willing to
provide the necessary training to develop the required patent-related skills.
Terms and Conditions
- Candidates will be required to sign an Engagement-cum-Non-Disclosure Agreement for
a minimum period of three years.
- Salary and other terms and conditions will be commensurate with the candidate’s
qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role.
