As Pakistan International Airlines moves into an important new chapter of transformation, the airline is looking for a Chief Internal Auditor to strengthen governance, performance, accountability, and institutional excellence. This is an opportunity to help lead the turnaround of one of Pakistan’s most iconic national institutions.
- Position: Chief Internal Auditor
- Organization: Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL)
- Position Purpose: The Chief Internal Auditor will lead PIACL’s Internal Audit function, providing independent and objective assurance to the Board Audit Committee and management on governance, risk management, internal controls, compliance, financial discipline, operational performance, and ethical conduct.
- Reporting Line: The role reports functionally to the Board Audit Committee and administratively to the CEO, with direct and unrestricted access to the Board Audit Committee, Chairman, CEO, external auditors, regulators, and all records, systems, locations, and personnel needed for audit work.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit Strategy, Governance and Risk Management — Develop a risk-based audit strategy aligned with PIACL’s turnaround plan and international standards; prepare the annual audit plan; assess enterprise risk management and business continuity readiness; present audit findings to the Board Audit Committee.
- Risk-Based Assurance — Conduct audits across Finance, Commercial, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Procurement, HR, IT, Safety, Cargo, Ground Handling, Revenue Management, and Transformation Projects; identify control weaknesses, fraud risks, and inefficiencies.
- Compliance Assurance — Assure compliance with aviation regulations, corporate governance, internal policies, procurement rules, financial controls, labor and tax laws; report compliance gaps to management and the Board.
- Performance Monitoring and Management Assurance — Review the accuracy of performance data on revenue, cost, route profitability, aircraft utilization, on-time performance, load factor, yield, and transformation milestones; highlight underperformance and weak accountability.
- Financial Control and Value Protection — Review controls over revenue, expenditure, procurement, payroll, treasury, fuel, maintenance, and aircraft leasing; identify opportunities to reduce leakage and strengthen financial discipline.
- Fraud Risk, Ethics and Investigations — Lead or supervise investigations into suspected fraud, misconduct, and financial irregularities; strengthen whistleblowing and investigation protocols; report significant issues to the Board Audit Committee.
- Digital Audit and Data Analytics — Build data-driven audit capability using analytics and continuous monitoring; review IT controls, cybersecurity risks, ERP controls, and data integrity.
Required Qualification And Experience
- CA, ACCA, CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE, CMA, or an equivalent professional qualification
- Minimum 25 years of relevant experience, including senior leadership in internal audit, risk, finance, compliance, governance, or assurance
- Experience in aviation, logistics, transportation, public-sector enterprises, regulated industries, infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, banking, or large conglomerates preferred
- Strong exposure to Board Audit Committees, risk-based auditing, financial controls, fraud investigations, and governance
- Experience in turnaround, restructuring, transformation, or data-driven audit environments is an added advantage
